About time I got round to doing this.. smile.gif Had the car since October 2006 and it has been a constant work in progress.

This first thread I will use to bring you upto date on the current state of the car and we'll go from there smile.gif

Most of the main mods are listed in my sig.. the main aim of the car being to create a fast road/light track use car that returns good performance and economy without sacrificing day-to-day useability too much! To that end there will be no roll cages or removed rear seats here, however nor will there be anything on the car that doesn't either make it go or look better.

Mechanicically the car is pretty sound, just passed MOT after needing rear beam bushes. Needs a rear wheel bearing soon, but hopefully nothing major till the cambelt + clutch which i plan to have done for the second time in 2010. (Cambelt was done at ~20k in 2005) Currently at a geniune 48000 miles so there is plenty of life in her yet! This week I have been fitting my new OMP rear strut brace, stripping a little more trim and fitting my new FRP rear seats....

New OMP rear strut brace fitted

Genuine Carbon Fibre door trim

Day-Glo orange paint so now matches the standard dials (that I like very much) good.gif

Rear FRP seats, also showing rear CF trim

Trial run PUMA graphic.. what do people think? I will be getting some professionally done once I have decided I like it.. that one was made with scissors! biggrin.gif

Some pics after a good clean:

How shiny?

That'll do for now. Next to do are some matching blue front seats, but NOT racing puma seats (too heavy!!) watch this space... smile.gif

1.7L. ST150 clutch. Shawspeed lightened flywheel. Miltek exhaust manifold & full decat system. Pipercross foam cone filter. Speedline white 17" wheels. Toyo R888s. Weitec coilovers.
Powerflex rear beam bushes. Willwood 4-pots, 280mm dics & HEL braided hoses. Kenwood headunit. OMP: rear strut brace. Oddessy Racing 40 battery.
Corbeau Clubman seats. LUKE harnesses. FRP rear seats. Carbon fibre interior. FRP splitter.
Ultimate green. ~990kg...PROJECT THREAD

Looks like Ford Le Mans green unsure.gif

They named the Sporting Escort colours after racing circuits.
Sebring Red, Daytona Yellow.
Not sure about the Blue they used ?

I used to have a Sporty Alfa with seats Black and that colour laugh.gif

Love the colour.

The rear strut brace did you manage to fix it to anything with chassis hold? Only I thought the top of the top mounts were pretty flimsy for using and the rear brace is good for hanging shopping on only.

Lower front strut brace does add great precise feel. Though the OMP one is pants as it does not fit most of the time. See the group buy for the stainless one in the Tyres/wheels etc. section by Yog.

The Puma/cat shape personaly looks naff and spoils an otherwise tasteful (yes I know bright green) car.
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

The first picture is a bit misleading, that was about a year ago, not where the project started, I bought the car as a completely standard Melina 1.7, the purple bodywork was however pretty tatty..

Thanks smile.gif
I made them myself using vacuum bagging infusion to mould the fabric tightly to the shape, and a professional autoclave to set the resin!

Its Ford "Ultimate Green" which is a new colour specially for the new 2009 Focus RS, interestingly enough it's named and inspired by BP Ultimate, as BP have been the main sponsor of Ford's WRC effort recently.

Thanks HK smile.gif

The rear strut brace is bolted to the rear suspension towers but not directly to the top of the top mounts, rather like most upper front braces. It was a very tight fit and seems very stiff... it could certainly support an awful lot of shopping wink.gif I fitted it because a lot of the guys on ZSOC seem to swear by them for track cars.. I can't say I've noticed any real difference yet however...

Front lower brace is on the to-do list I think.

Yeah I'm not convinced by the graphic yet, it was copied off an S1600 car that i thought looked cool but it might be coming off sooner rather than later.

Monza Blue Graham wink.gif

My Mk1 Mexico is Le mans green that was used as the general idea when creating the Focus RS green that this Puma is painted in and looks gorgeous by the way as mentioned on your post where I spotted you, really suits the car with the white wheels cool.gif

Weitec coilovers mate smile.gif But at the front I have cut away at the inner arch as was done on the FRP in order to allow it to sit lower without rubbing! It also runs 16mm hubcentric wheel spacers all round, and has the additional 10mm pumaspeed axle spacers on the back.
