I did a search (honest) but couldnt find the answer.

I only have 1 key for my 2000 puma 1.7, I want a 2nd key but dont fancy paying £150 & the rest for new blade & remote.

Q1 - just have a non remote key cut and use it manually in case I lose my main key.

Q2 - what is cheapest way purchase a new key/remote and programmed.

Thanks for any advice people.

TImpsons can do it much cheaper than Ford. Or your local auto-locksmith.

I think you should go to Ford for that non-remote key. If you would like a second remote key afterwards you can source the remote from ebay, get the blade part cut by Ford and do the programming yourself. Most locksmiths cut the key and copy the transponder for the immobilizer so you end up with an exact copy of the key but not two different keys (i.e. with distinct transponders) which you need to do the programming for more keys that start the car (the remote can be programmed with just one key).

So can I buy a Ford 3 button key fob off eBay and get the key cut at timpsons.

If I programme it myself would that involve soldering?

No, it just requires putting it in the ignition and doing some turning to various positions. There are instructions around here somewhere...

Ian you sound like a very usefully chap.

How much for stereo and fob please.

I feel like we are friends already so can I have mates rates please :P

Also don't know what it's called but I need a grommet that goes over a screw head in the recess where the inside drivers door handle is.

If that makes sense I need that too.

Yes, that is what I meant. I went the same route to get a second remote key, but I already had a complete key set (i.e. 1 remote key, 1 non-remote key, 1 T-key). Got the remote part off ebay (they sometimes go below 20 quid on auctions) and went to Ford for the front part with the key blade cut to match the others (was quoted around 15, iirc).
For instructions on how to program the remote to work and to use the completed key to start the car have a look in the Wiki. There are instructions on how to do both.

Hi just thought I'd share a bit of knowledge I was given recently.

I managed to get new key and remote working for 41 quid.

I got the key cut at timpsons for £25

I bought a remote off eBay for £16 and programmed it to car which is so easy its unbelievable.

Here's the link.

It says for a transit but apparently works for the whole ford range that use this key

I know some of you know this already but for those who don't I've worked out this is the cheapest way to get your 2nd key and remote, with the least hassle.

I also found that none of my local key cutters were prepared to cut a proper ford blade as they didn't supply it.

I bought that fob but I cant seem to program it. I have tried 3 different methods I have found on the web and nothing seems to be working.

There are some guides to follow here on the pumapeople wiki which hopefully will sort your issue out
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

for some reason I cant log onto the wiki it says I need to have cookies allowed, but ive checked and they are. basically I have tried the turn the key 4 times method, and the turn it once and wait for solid light method, and neither seems to do anything. Im not sure where im going wrong.

When you login to wiki check to make sure your username is showing correct as it might have a capital letter that should not be there

thanks that has sorted my logging into the wiki. I think I have had every common fault there is on a puma! sticky steering wheel only seems to be in very wet weather.

On key note, the wiki guide was the same as I was using. I think it might be that my puma key has 2 buttons but this fob has 3, in that case I may need a different fob?
