Heater Control Valve / Air Con

My heating is stuck on fully hot. I suspect the Heater Control Valve needs replacing.
As a quick fix until I next get to a Ford garage (apparently a genuine part is the only way to go) I am going to simply bypass the valve altogether by joining the input and output water pipes.
This will of course leave me with no heating. Not a problem for now.
My question is - will the A/C still work?

It is best to get genuine part better chance of it lasting more than a month and sometimes the part is fairly rasonably priced from Ford.

Bypassing the HCV is same as setting it to cold?
Would you really need the aircon now anyway?
I recently got a new HCV from FordPartsUK. Cheaper than dealers, a few clicks and the postman brought it in a couple of days.

I've got used ones for £15 delivered, tested, but also the same age as the one which has come off.
Air con will still work - all you're doing by joining the pipes is prohibiting coolant entering the heater matrix cavity. That doesn't impede air flow or the AC exchanger's ability to go cold.

Why does Perry's ad quote the HCV as being for a 1.6 ? Surely they are common across all Pumas ?
