Last week in Norfolk., Betty (FRP52) and I were very naughty...a long straight empty country road..an accelerator pedal...the thrill of FRP acceleration and we were doing around 110 (er..60..lol), enjoying the jitters when the idiot driver mistook a small hump back bridge for a ridge in the road. result? One flying FRP...all four wheels off the ground..airborne! Betty landed square didn't even jink and kept going...she now thinks she is a real rally car and wants to do it again! as for me...well it frightened the....ahem....out of me so she will have to stay on the floor in future

You were VERY lucky.
I know someone who did a humpbacked bridge too quick in his Zetec Fiesta and the air bags deployed
Imagine that!!!
He crashed as he couldn't see where he was going.
Luckily it was only him and his car that got damaged.

crickey, you were lucky it didn't crash down hard on the front and destroy the bumper, splitter etc etc

I wouldn't try that one too often...

Yes, as I said it scared the c**p out of me, especially as i treat Betty with a lot of respect other than powering up a bit sometimes... her rally heritage really came through as she landed though but i realise how lucky the landing was and i cant see any damage. She is going to have new brake pads shortly so i will have a good look underneath when its on the ramp!

don't try this at home children.....

sounds like good fun :)

ive not had all four wheels off in the frp but did in my old nova and that ended up in the landing followed by veiring left into a field luckily there was no banks and ditches etc so drove out of the field and carried on ;).

doubt you have damaged anything but worth a check of it all, but if the steering feels good no shakes etc then im sure your all fine

ive done jumps in frp before, the bump and rebound settle the car very nicely, was quite impressed actually. You may well of bent your dampers though.

Yes we need a thread of google map locations for FRP moments, lol.

I imagine that if it didn't land straight and true it would have been all over the shop and completely uncontrollable.

this is why FRP's (and the S1600 they were based on) have bigger arches at front to allow suspension travel! and hence why "slamming them" or fitting mahoosive wheels to "fill the arches" is all wrong!! the space is there for a reason!!!

I'm not sure. I used the green ones from PumaBuild last time as the Alcons were on back order. Alan told me that the green ones had meant no complaints unlike the Alcons and I have to say that they are very good though the guy that looks after Betty wasn't impressed that I had had them fitted. I will talk to him about them when I have the new exhauist hangers fitted and my undercarraige checked follwoing the flying lesson in Norfolk. Do you have any suggestions?

I think I was very lucky to have landed almost flat as there were drainage ditches on both sides of the road and it could have ended in tears.. Betty strightened up beautifully but it was risky at that point as my ABS and Traction control isnt working....

my GF has been telling everyone how she has become an adrenaline junkie and wants to to do more of that..no fear I say, Betty is far too precious to frighten me like that again, however for those who like the excitement I will get my GF to check where we were and will see if we can work out co-ordinates..

happy flying y'all

pete

This makes me laugh. You guys are hooning around in your cars and I am too scared to take mine out in case someone damages it so I just look at it instead.

I used to be scared but Then decided I would rather have fun and if I did damage it, I would have done it enjoying myself :)
