Hi there, I am the proud owner of Ford Racing Puma 208. Just read on the Pumabuild website, they have FRP 4 for ssale which, was an original ford press (show) car, it is said to have usual show car extras, such as wider rear track. Does anybody know more about this, any information would be helpful, thanks.

Not really sure, but what I do know is that it was (think lol) 30mm wider, but they never fitted it to all cars because they didn't handle as nicely.

Thanks, David. Its just looking at the picture you could tell, does look better though with the wheels furthur out in the arches. If the car did not handle as well with the wider rear track, fair enough.

The track was widened with spacers so the car would have a wider and slightly 'meaner' poise... smile.gif

as far as I know, it didn't have any negative effect on the handling though....

I think Ed knows a bit more about this.... smile.gif

I might be wrong, but I read that on here a while back. Not sure if it's true, though.
There must be a reason why they weren't fitted to all the cars.

Had #207 just over a year now, no major problems but still had to fork out for a few new bits...

Exhaust Manifold
Hego Sensor
TPS Sensor
Some other Sensor (that I can't remember)
Exhaust Mid section / back Box
Front Wheel Bearing
Rear Discs and Pads
Front Pads
Front Brake Pistons
Front Brake Service
Rear Suspension Beam Bushes..........

Apparently the 4 walls of Pumabuild learn't some new swearwords last time #207 visited!

Front Discs are souding like they're gonna need skimming very shortly and I need a new steering wheel and some refurbed alloys too. wacko.gif

do you really need a new steering wheel or does it just need a jolly good clean?
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Wider track was not used because there was issues of the rear beam twisting wink.gif

This is why 20mm was used.

Lee,

Some of the press FRP's ran 30mm spacers compared to the standard car's 20mm. V4 FRP is still running this setup in private ownership, and none of the owners have reported problems.

I think FR had been concerned about potential twiting to the rear axle, hence a change to 20mm.

I have some pictures, but the gallery doens't seem to want anything uploading at the moment.

here's the quote i was after....

So if all us frp owners put some 10mm spacers on the rear wheels, it won't look like we've parked at a funny angle?

I own V4 and I haven't had any problems with it. Have never had it up against another FRP really so never noticed the difference the extra 10mm gives it.

I'm sure it must handle better than all the other FRP's though ja_bebe.gif

Never noticed any handling difference when driven back to back with a Production vehicle...certainly looks better though. smile.gif

I had 30 mm spacers made for my Puma to widen the track a bit and Pumabuild haven't complained yet!! which normally they do if I come up with a crazy idea or one that will break the car!
