Every so often I read somewhere that certain cars such as the Focus RS have been fitted with a Bluefin and that it increases the bhp by quite a bit.
I was just wondering if Puma's can have Bluefins fitted? I can't find any info in mags etc.
Think its some kind of chip?? Supposed to give the car better torque, power and accleration etc??
Does anyone have one or know about them?
cheers

Puma and Bluefin?

Yep, the Puma can be Bluefin'd. Quite a few people on here have had the mod done. Unlike most other superchips, rather than replacing the standard item with a new one, Bluefin is simply plugged into your old one and stores it's new information on it. This means it can be changed back very easily, and is almost impossible to detect. http://www.superchips.co.uk/bluefin/why.htm
I think it adds about 12bhp to a 1.7 Puma.

The Bluefin will not take into account and modification you have done (or will do), engine wear and variations in your engine during it's manufacture (no to engines are the same).
A far better use for your money is a proper aftermarket ECU than can be fully mapped to your engine, and re-mapped after future modifications. These are a little bit more difficult to plumb in, but are worth. They will also allow you to fit throttle bodies one day, how good would that be

Not actually true, most other 'chips' simply reprogram the ECU (cheap), others like Unichip are piggy backed onto the std puma ECU and don't replace it (medium cost), whereas Omex and Motec etc replace the whole puma ECU (high cost but most flexible).
The Bluefin is downloaded to the ECU from the handset, and your original map is stored in the Bluefin so you can change it back whenever you want. You also get the added bonus of reading ECU fault codes on the handset, enabling you to diagnose faults without going to your muppet ford dealer, and can also immobilise the car by wiping the ECU of all information, handy when going on holiday and leaving the car for a few weeks.
Speak to Richard Davies at Wiltshire Superchips on 01793 722222 for more information.
I have one fitted to my FRP and I get much better driveability and also much better fuel consumption best ever being 46.5 mpg!!

I would say from past experience Bluefin/Superchip on its own would give about a 5bhp boost at best. It may up the torque too which helps the fun factor.
Ask him for a dyno-plot before and after. If he cant show you one, then you know he's having you on.

]I'm quite the easy-going type, once you get to know me. Running with - Unichip/Kent Cams/K&N filter/Magnex Cat-Back/Magnecor leads/NGK plugs/Polybushes and Strutbrace. 156bhp last time I tried.

Once the Bluefin handset has been used on one car it cannot be used on another car (without Superchips resetting it) so you can not borrow or share one with your mates.
20 BHP increase sounds wrong, unless he has a RS Focus engine in his Fiesta ZS.

Wouldnt be too happy with 120bhp out of a focus rs engine!

Ive got Bluefin installed on my ECU but I have to say that for ?300 you don't get loads, I have to say the car feels better on the throttle.
Personally if you are only going to install bluefin then it's fine, if you want to chance other engine components then you will need a programmable chip / modification.
