I'm sure this must have been covered before, but as our passenger-side electric mirror came off the worse of a boot by one of the local hoodies, we wanted to be able to assess the damage to see what can be salvaged/repaired and what needs to be replaced.
Basically the glass is broken so would definitely need to be replaced, but the actual mirror casing appears to be fine (a little scratching but nothing that wouldn't polish out).
The mirror itself was loose but hadn't completely detached from the mounting bracket, and is still attached by a sort of spring thingy which looks to have been stretched quite a bit, but is otherwise intact. We tried to re-attach the mirror but can't figure out how to do it. We also found two small broken pieces of flat plastic which were loose inside the mirror.
Do you think that our mirror sounds like it's salvageable, or needs replaced?
I'm not sure how we remove the mirror - which I reckon we probably need to do to assess how much damage there is - and again, we don't know how to re-attach it, and we don't have a handy tame mechanic to help.
Next question is: how likely is it that the actual mounting plate is damaged, as we've seen lots of MkIV Fiesta manual mirrors on Ebay which could do the trick, but I understand that we'd need to remove its mounting plate and use a Puma-specific one. If the plate is damaged, are these easy to find for sensible money?
Last question is: if we somehow manage to get a manual Fiesta mirror and a Puma mount (either the existing one if it's ok or a new one) how do we go about fitting that, given that it was an electric mirror before? Do we need to buy a seperate manual mechanism, and where/how would it be fitted?
Thanks a million for any help - who knows, maybe this could get sorted this week, fingers crossed!!!

Hmmmm... I guess we'll have to have another look at it and see if we can re-attach it. If we have trouble, and we take photos, will someone here tell us if it's a goner?

Hi - I recently refitted my electric wing mirror - it wasn't completely broken, just not sitting right. If you post some pics of the mirror you have I might be able to give you some pointers about getting it sorted and what I did to fix mine...
It's really fiddly and I have no idea of how they build the things in the first place as everything gets in the way of everything else, but we can try!

OK, we've had another look at the mirror and taken some photos. It's difficult to take photos of the damage as it's actually quite a small target to photograph, so you might have to forgive our rather shallow depth-of-field!
Here are the photos - maybe someone can tell whether the mirror is knackered or not:
I hope that these are clear enough for someone to help!
Thanks,
Tahra & John
Oh, one other thing - we removed some black plastic which was at the engine side of the mirror - it was broken and didn't appear to be doing much. It didn't appear to be strong enough to do much anyway, so I assume its purpose wasn't to hold the mirror in place, in which case shame on Ford for using such a cheap method

Hi - this looks similar to mine, with the exception that your spring (as seen in the last pic) looks very stretched - mine was still spring-like.
In the first pic, you see the black nub dead in the middle of the pic? There is a corresponding one at the bottom of the same bracket, these two are held in place behind two wide-headed screws that are on the wing mirror side. You can just see the lower screw at the back of the first pic. What I had to do was take the door card off, remove the inside door trim. This lets you get to the three nuts that hold the mirror base to the door. Undo these (after disconnecting the leccie cable of course) and the whole thing comes off. Then the outside black trim comes off (I think there were two easy to see screws and then some fancy twiddling to get the plastic trim away from the mirror). This then gets you some access to those screws I was talking about. I removed one screw and left the other in place. I then managed to mangle one the of plastic nubs behind the screw still in place and then, and this is the fiddly bit, managed to get the screw I took off in its hole and holding the nub in place too. Then screwed the thing back in, this is working against the spring that should bring the wing mirror and the base back together again. It was a pain to screw it back in as the whole unit blocks the screw head, but a bit of persuasion with a small screwdriver got it tight enough to hold.
Clear as mud I know - I posted about all this when I did it, maybe more details in that (search the forum).
I hope this helps a bit...
