Hi Everyone,
Just got my puma today which im already totally in love with its a 99 1.4 but until today id never driven one,is there anything i should be aware of being a new owner, one thing ive noticed and im unsure about is that sometimes she will chug in 2nd or 3rd gear i put it down to dirt in the petrol tank because she was flashing for petrol by the time i got to the petrol station after buying her, but maybe its something else, have been looking for an owners manual too because the dash light isnt working and i dont know which fuse to change to fix this, also she is blowing warm air all the time, even when i set the heater to cold it blows warm air, im hoping this is something small,im not a mechanic and funds are very limited right now, also im wondering how u can tell if the clock has gone over 100,000 miles, the clock on mine says 24000 but for a 99 model i dont reckon its a proper reading. But i do love her lol, very well looked after and spotless throughout

Welcome! I've not driven a 1.4, but my 1.7 seems to have a fairly close gear ratio compared to other cars I've driven and so it likes to move through the gears quite quickly. Keeping it in a lower gear might make it a bit chuggy if you're not spot-on with the clutch. I'd imagine you'd have to be more precise with the smaller engines, too. Mine took a bit of getting used to, but not very long at all. I absolutely love mine, so I hope you'll get just as much enjoyment from yours. HCVs can be bought quite readily and don't cost too much- it seems to be a very common problem, but as with most of these problems is easy to fix.

Fuse for Instrument Cluster, Interior Lights, Clock and Heater Module is Fuse 2, 10amp, Red in Central Box (by your right knee) behind the Pocket Panel.
Pull the panel out and Fuse 2 is 2nd from the left at the bottom. If your Interior Lights, Clock and Heater Module are still working, then it's not the fuse.

Thank You for the welcome.
I checked the car through motorcheck and it said there was no record of any mileage exceeding the 24,000 thats on it now, so does that mean the miles are genuine? Does an NCT make a note of mileage? As my current nct is due for renewal in february of next year

Also the stereo is asking for a code, is this an easy thing to obtain or am i better off just changing the stereo.
i dont have any type of manual for this so im guessing the only way i can obtain a code is to contact ford?

NCT? presume same as our MOT? mileage should be shown, 24k is a brilliant find, intereor usually shows signs of wear - especially foot pedals - on high mileage cars.

Radio can be recoded.

I bought the car from a car sales guy, same guy as i bought my previous car from, never had any issues with my previous car so i went back to him this time just to see what he had to offer and fell in love with the puma as soon as i saw it, the pedals dont look worn at all and the steering wheel is in good shape, i guess ill just have to wait until i go for the nct which is the same as an english mot.

As for recoding the radio how would i go about that?

You've all been so helpful, thank you all so much for replying to me time and time again lol.

I dont have display on my time clock either which is digital so maybe thats connected with the dash light not working, will replace fuse tomorrow and see if that helps

Ask your garage guy if he can get the radio recoded, probably knows a man who can.

If interior wear is minimal then i hope it is only 24,000 miles, sounds great.
