What A Wonderful Present

I logged on to my internet banking site earlier and saw that my credit card account had been hit for over £400 that I did not recognise.
I phoned my bank and found out that someone has changed my address, home phone number and mobile number at the bank (3 days ago), and promptly made the £400+ spend. What I did not see online, because the transactions are too recent to have been listed, was that a series of other big spends on my account have been made, eating up a whopping £7000 of my credit. It seems that for one transaction the bank tried to phone me to check that the spend was mine, but there was no reply - not a surprise if they changed my contact numbers!
Guess whose credit cards on that account have been frozen...
What gets me is that the fraudsters managed to answer all the security questions correctly to change my contact details.
I now know how other pp members have felt when their cards/accounts have been cloned. I just hope no-one comes knocking on my door for the £7k...
Happy birthday, Ben

It's not enough that you get the money back, they need to pay compensation for their failure.
Last time that happened to us, we received a form to fill in and confirm they were not our transactions, with questions that make you feel you've done something wrong, even though you haven't!
The main thing to watch is that they do not charge you interest while they sort it out, as they tried to do to us on two occasions.
I now bank with Halifax on line and changed details yesterday. Within 20 minutes I received the following email:
Dear customer,
Thank you for confirming your telephone contact details.
If you have made any amendments to your contact details these have now been updated.
Please note that if you hold any joint accounts, only your details will be updated.
This confirmation email has been sent as a security precaution.
If you did not make this number change/confirmation, please call our online helpdesk on 08456 02 00 00. Lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Regards,
Halifax Online Helpdesk

The Haynes Fiesta Manual (3397) can answer a lot of your questions.

Maybe its someone who knows you???
I hope you use a cross cut home shredder!!!!
You should be covered by the bank especially if it was done in branch!!

One has to question where they got your personal information from?? especially secret question stuff. From my experience of phone banking you usually have a 6 digit code and they ask for 2 numbers eg 1st and 5th number.
