I've been to Scotland today, Livingston, Airdrie and Motherwell, used a 1.9 diesel automatic Saab 93, and it did 51.3 mpg. That's a hell of a lot better than my Puma at 28-30 mpg!

Yes but when your knee gives out then you'd consider it Jamie.

A friend of mines wife has just bought her self a Lexus IS250, the model with all the "Toys"
She got that in Automatic as is has a lower emission rating than the manual
Saved her self some money on the tax!!
Surprised she was bothered considering she paid cash for the car. 20K with 6000 miles on it.
It is VERY nice

Despite having gearbox controls on the steering wheel, the transmission could still change down, just couldn't change up.
It was a 211HP car with a LSD, and you couldn't turn off the damn stability control!
You could turn off the traction contol and do a great 11, but that was about it. Plus, when pressing on, you really didn't feel like you were involved.
Cost me a fortune in depreciation and was the most disappointing car I ever owned, based upon my epxerience, a Lexus really isn't something to covet.

To be fair keeping it to just over 80 on the motorway I get 36-38. I don't think I'd be willing to replace my Zetec with a boat anchor just for another 15mpg. 59bhp or a whoping 73bhp with a turbo doesn't sound like much fun to me.
BTW That's a Fiat engine in the Saab !

You must have second sight or something then.
My friend had his leg crushed in a road accident when he was about 26 years old. It took him 2 years to get the use of his leg back.
He didn't think he would be almost crippled that morning when he went to work.
He was very grateful for automatic cars then

I didn't expect to rupture 2 cruciate ligaments in my right knee in a football match one sunday morning. Nor did I expect that after playing 2 or 3 times every week for nearly 30 years that I'd be told I'd never play again.
Truth is you NEVER know what's around the corner...
