Hi, as title suggests i need my bushes replaced. I have been quoted £250 from my local Halfrauds Autocentre (they are next door to work!) and having read posts on here i seem to think it can be done much cheaper regards labour cost.
Any help and suggestions gratefully received.
Many thanks. Mickster.

Don't know anywahere near you but mine failed the MOT today for the same thing and the guy quoted £144 all in, think Halfrauds are trying to rip you off.

Hope you find someone nearby.

Thanks, i know Tremora have a good rep in Southampton but labour is quite high from what i remember last time i took my wife's Puma there. Halfrauds said 4/5 hours labour which is why the high quote.

The guy that quoted me said they were a pain in the a*** to do but didn't say how long it would take him.

£30 each for Ford OEM Bushes + 1 - 1/12 hours labour. With a bush removing tool (http://cgi.ebay.co.u...b#ht_500wt_1156) it takes about an hour.

If the removal / refitting tool does what it says on the tin, I'd be tempted to diy. Got axle stands etc if you need a lend( also in fareham).Or use poly bushes, they don't need a tool to fit.

Just been quoted £120 + Vat which is better i suppose. Tempted to DIY it but can't be arsed with the tool buying nonsense and i don't want poly ones as the ride is harsh enough as it is with the lowering springs that were fitted. Might just bite the bullet spend the cash!

Sure I did mine with a bit of threaded rod and some big washers.

I certainly wouldn't be paying 100 quid for it.

I'm sure there is a good guide in the wiki on how to fit Powerflex ones.
I followed it and did mine about a month ago.
You will need a 50mm Hole saw and a good drill, plus a hacksaw to remove the old bushes.
Took me about an hour from start to finish, but I was using an air impact wrench and air ratchet to undo wheel nuts and the bush bolts.
Plus a air saw to cut the old bush out. ;)
Think I paid £45 for the bushes, but I also replaced the two bush bolts. So add another £13 I think from Ford.

Tremona garage Southampton, £50 hour, and your car will be given a good look over by Richard as well, and you will be 'advised of but not pressured into' any work that needs to be done, with a timescale as well

As previously mentioned, they were quite expensive the last time i went but having just been and had them done by my local garage after being quoted £120 + Vat and then being charged £210 instead, i wish i bloody had gone.

They got the bushes from Camberley at £27 each side and then went on to charge me £60 an hour labour +Vat!!!

I had strong words and complained and got the bill down to the original quote but why the F**k do we have to jump through the hoops like that when you are quoted one price and then charged another. I wouldn't mind but i hate garages and feel they are always after having you over and this lot were beginning to gain my trust. Strike them from my list i think.

Having said all that, my Puma now feels tight as anything after having new shocks, top mounts and finally the bushes.

if you can get the bolts out the bush mounts then its easy enough to do on your own, seized bolts is the biggest pain

Does anyone know of a garage in the North East that could fit my rear bushes for a fair price, not the Poly ones but standard Ford parts. My local ford dealer has quoted me £230 to fit them, this sound a bit harsh to me.

...or within a couple of hours drive.

Cheers.

I'm beginning to think £230 fitted is not that bad as I've just had a quote of over £400 plus parts, mental.

Hi, just wondering how many rear arm bush replacements are as a result of a MOT fail or just as a recommendation/advisory?

As far as the MOT test goes, there are tolerances which the tester has to adhere to. If in doubt, ask the tester to justify his
decision. If you feel aggrieved, ask for a VT17. You could well be surprised by the backtrack.

Look at the Puma garage list - linked in my sig block.

Ford suspension bushes will last around 4 years, poly bushes will outlast the car
