Hey guys, havent had my frp (295) long, around a month.

Anyway, my pads are squeeling like hell. its make driving it embarresing some times. rolleyes.gif

The pads have been out to check, theres quite alot of pad left, but the front drivers side inside pad is worn more than others.

So, a new set is required. Iv searched the site but theres no definate answer to what pad is best for a standard fast road set-up. Iv read that greenstuff are awfull and redstuff eat your disks.

So what about the pagid pads as they are the correct thickness for the alcon calipers. Do these pads come with a good set of backing plates to stop the squeeling?

What other options are available to me? Links and prices please.

Hi,

Stripped my brakes down last weekend on the Frp, ive currently got mintex pads fitted at the minute. Having read the excellent advice on the forum from the brake masters, I reassemblied the pads and made sure that I applied some copperslip grease to the top and bottom edges of the pads and also to the point where the pads are incontact with the pistons.

I also noticed that the gasket between the piston and caliper is slightly cut away across the corner, have you got this gasket fitted. I'm sure the guys will be on latter but you may not need new pads. From what others have said its normal that the pads wear differently inner and outer.

Anyway the end result of my cleaning was that the cars like a "stealth fighter" flys in quietly and roars off undetected by radar !!

I have EBC Green stuff in my calipers, I have no issues with them.. about 18 months now.
No noticable wear on the disks, not much dust and I can get the back go light under heavy braking. wink.gif

Never tried Red stuff, but I think they are more competition bias?

Standard is Mintex .
I see Audi RS2 (I think) are the same pads unsure.gif

PM Chris (Eldude) , he's tried most pads on the market I expect wink.gif

Mine are Mintex and they sqeal like hell, been on the car about four months and done 500 miles on them, I will be copper greasing them soon to temporarily sort the situation out. Some members on here put backing strips on the pads and it seems to work well in most cases.

although they did need to be skimmed down about 1mm to fit

iv found that the shim bit is a complete myth.....for a start its down to the solid nature of the set up and a squeel is caused by vibrations....ie the pads moving around, new shims help as they are rubbery; dampening movement & therefore vibrations, copperslip a little in a similar manner

stuck / knackered pistons dont help or loose pad rails tho.

iv completely got rid of all brake squeel by using a 2 piece disc; the nature of the fixing must be allowing for the vibrations to be damped. grooved discs are better than plain too

pads; ferrodo, original mintex & many more skimmed to the correct size are available off the shelf from £60 delivered from a motorsport supplier.

ask eldood; i know for a fact after all his petty comments at me he now stocks the parts iv had made by said company!

Im going to try copper greasing them on the weekend. Also a deep clean. If not, then what do people think of the pagid pads?

My mintex pads squelaed for about 3000 miles!!!! even with double shims & copper grease! They have finally shut up now. There where fitted to new discs, so was a tight fit.

Pagid ones appear to be better, from what I've heard! smile.gif

Spike,

Im glad you posted this reply biggrin.gif my pads also accompanied new discs, I was told by someone in the know they would probably settle down ok. The trouble is its going to take me over a year (weather dependent) to do 3k dry.gif

My old Mintex pads used to squeal alot - no shim. Just had some Textar pads put on, while servicing the calipers eldoode cut down the shim as per the OEM pads, no squealing so far. biggrin.gif
