If you canĀ“t hear any kind of sound from the solenoid when button is pressed, then perhaps the microswitch is broken:

Where did you put the oil? Where the key goes in? You need to put it in the mechanism that holds and releases the boot lid.

I did this to free mine up a little bit. Later that day and the next day the door open light kept flickering on and off while driving. I think the oil conducted the switch in the back, lol.
It sounds to me like what zedder has mentioned. When you use the key and turn in the lock, it manually opens the catch to release the boot. When you press the button in or use the button on your key it operates the microswitch below which is basically an electronic way of opening the boot which is why you can use the button on your key fob to do it.
Check for any loose connections to this before taking it to the garage? If i remember rightly it's located between the lock and nearside (passenger side) back lights, pull back the carpet at the top there.

Mine was the same when I bought it, also pressing the button on the back of the car didn't work either. I removed a bit of the trim from inside the left hand side of the boot (took 2 mins) you can see the soleniod, I moved the rod a couple of times by hand and it started to work, it's still a little tempremental, sometimes it need to be pressed two or three times. It will need to be replaced at some point but as the bumper has to come off to get at it I'll leave it until it stops altogether!!
