Hi peeps I got hold of this puma around a year ago it came into were I work so I took my opportunity to grab myself a bargain! Once I got it to my workshop I started looking into what I actually wanted to do with it, lookin into the build of the car it came with a full wrc escort wide track rear suspension set up and wide track wrc front suspension so my opinion to keep it front wheel drive wouldve been madness, but I didn't want to go the normal route of cosworth yb 4wd as it's been done before so I decided to go rear wheel drive, I also wanted to fit an engine that I hadn't heard of being fitted to a puma either (as far as I'm aware ) so I decided to fit a mountune 2.0 I4 which in it's current state is 225bhp. After removing lots of metal and lots of fabrication the engine is in the engine bay, my next job is to fabricate my gearbox tunnel which will be in the next few weeks, this is the start of my project with plenty more to come!. Following pictures are upto current state and will be added soon

Hi and welome to the site.

I look forward to following this one ;)

Be interesting to see how you attack the bulkhead / tunnel, mind you mine was a bit more severe due to the size of the V6 and 4x4 transfer box etc :)

To be honest though unless you want it swapping ends everywhere and pretty much un driveable in the wet, personally I'd reconsider going 4x4, the wheelbase of a Puma is very short lololol ;)

Cheers Dave

Steve,

I cut the tunnel and bulkhead out of my Scorpio complete, but it just doesn't fit the puma floor nicely so I ended up just using the bit around the belhousing and then buying in 18 gauge sheet steel and fabricating my own 3 piece affair. It gets very tight around the centre, at the back end of the gearlever area, as you've still got to fit a pair of seats in there !!

Most bucket seats are about 510 - 530 mm wide at the base. I completely gutted my original Puma seats to get the subframes and then modded the subframes to fit the existing floor bolts but move them outwards slightly. They now give full fore and aft adjustment, and room to fit bucket seats on top. Fiddly but very do-able.

Pedal box and master cylinder is an issue too, especially getting a nice pedal layout, I modded mine to move all the pedals to the right about 25 mm.

While your doing it put the bulge in it on the O/S to clear a 4x4 transfer box then if you want to go 4x4 later on it will be a doddle.

Have a trawl through my thread it may give you some ideas, and you may well be able to improve on some of it too. There are a few things I'd do differently next time, havng now had the experience lol ;)

Get them pix up :)

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave

Thanks for the reply the info u gave will come in most useful im welding in seat bars to mine so even though its gonna be a tight fit im hopin my bucket seats will fit, im also gonna use a floor mounted bias pedal box so hopefully will give me enough space to be able to them where i want them but it is small inside the puma lol. This project is lots of trial n error, ill try to get the pics up soon and will check out ur thread

Steve,

I had the Scrutineer round earlier today, looking at my work so far and measuring up. Just a word of caution.....

Watch your maximum width across the wheels front and rear, my rear came in at 1700mm which is the absolute maximum MSA will allow, other than that being well close lol, everything else was bang on !!

CCLB now started, me happy :)

Cheers Dave
