i'm going to be putting a 2.0 duratec into my mk4 fiesta, and the only way i'm gonna find how hard it is, is to do it, slowly collecting parts atm, have a 2.0 duratec, box and all bits from an ST150, but buying t/b's and management.

Dont know much about this but ill add my opinion for what its worth. The only thing i would like to add is watch out with the 2.0 duratec thats in the fiesta st. If you look at the figures its not much faster than the puma which is only a 1.7. I was certianily dissapointed with it. 0-60 is 7.9 and top speed is 129.

Would be massivley complicated, nay impossible, but there are much faster 2.0 engines out there. Impretza, civic type r, evo etc.

Out of interest any body know how much that turbo cost to put in the 1.7?
Sun is in the sky oh why oh why would I wanna be anywhere else?

to be honest- there were all those cossie's and rs turbo's racing around the track, they sounded great and made it fun to watch by sliding around the corners, but, there were exiges (just fettled elises) flying around the track, not making messes of the corners and were probably one of the fastest things all day. dont like them to look at but amazing to drive. saw some doing cossie's on the outside, just a thought! you dont need power if you can drive.

why dont you just buy a early clio 172 cup for around 6k add a quaiffe diff and finish it of with some road legal semi slicks.

if you want to you would have plenty of spare cash to play with the engine..ie ITBs, cams.etc etc

would be so cheaper and just as much fun as a sorted puma

The beauty of the Duratec is that it will give 200BHP just from throttle bodies without the need for any fancy cams etc.
Had a run out in a Westfield fitted with such engine and it was very quick!!

Just add a bit of totally non mechanical idiocy to this thread I've thought that a puma would be quite exciting with a lumpy V8 tucked in the front driving the rear wheels OR an even dafter idea would the cougar V6 somehow fit in the hole in the front. Always liked the idea of lots of cc's a bit like the mad idea of building AC Cobras maybe.
I'll go away now while you all decide I should be certified.

A nice all alloy modern V8 maybe.

A st220 V6 engine would be nice as the cougar engine ain't that great, althoutgh any V6 torque would be better than none!!

Would have to be more comfy cruiser type of car rather than B-road blaster.

So Warren do you think the ST220 V6 would actuallyfit in the hole under the bonnet of a Puma?

I think the cougar engine is best where it belongs. In a big heavy cruiser. Not sure how hard it would be to cross brands but what about an impretza engine? All the accel your ever going to need and its a smaller 2.0 unit. Just a pipe dream

I think Lisa was referring to the second conversion... but yeah , I suppose after spening a lot of money on such a conversion you don't/cant believe how bad a job could be done.

Aye biggrin.gif

Had to laugh at the weekend, poor Warren was experiencing the same frustration as I went through for 4 years, but I think with a proper set up with a decent map to suit the engine he will have a cracking car biggrin.gif

Not easily!!!

If you have the engineering skill you can fit a cosworth block in the wrong way so a transverse v6 should be possible. Would be easy peasy if you spaceframe the front end. crazy.gif crazy.gif crazy.gif

Ain't going to be cheap to do though.......

Just to add some real thought to this when FRUP had his last refurbished wheel fitted this morning one of the onlookers said " have you seen the Puma up the road that is spaceframe built with a 1400cc. 170 bhp motorbike engine fitted in the rear and is painted red. It was apparently locally built for rallying but recent changes in the regs meant it was banned and the owner is considering whether to hillclimb it and sprint it. I'm going to make a few enquiries and see if I can get to see it.

There's a few spaceframed rally cars about. I have seen a fiesta cosworth with space framed front end and also a KA with a spaceframe front so that a 2.0 duratec could be fitted.

Offers significant advantages for motorsport as you can undo entire front bodywork as easily as the bonnet.
