Emily is producing copious amounts of gloop from her eyes whilst asleep and awake.

We assume it is conjunctivitis and we are going to take her to the docs tomorrow. We are regularly using a clean wet sheet of bounty to wipe the gunk out, apart from that has anyone got any good advice please?

She is just keening and it breaks our hearts. sad.gif

highly infectious - use different wipes for different eyes

wash your hands before you touch your own eyes

give her lots of cuddles

I think you can now buy chloramphenicol (the antibiotic used to treat it) over the counter - don't need to go to the docs - shame you didn't post earlier and then you coudl have gone to a rota chemist open this afternoon

<hug> for Emily

Could be a blocked tear duct. You could try wiping it cottonwool soaked in saline solution ...... one teaspoon salt to one pint of boiled water then let it cool and keep it covered.

In the case of a baby, a visit to the doctor is always the safest option.

Thanks folks. Kyra put up a similar thread on a baby site and the advice was pretty much the same. We are using different wipes per eye and washing our hands.

I had it once and it cleared itself which apparently happens with babies too but if it is still there tomorrow then I will take her to the doc.

Emily thanks you for your hug Ben. She is offering up a kiss but sh eis covered in snot and drool as well as eye gub and i think that is parent territory for kissing! ohmy.gif

Sorry to hear that little Emily has conjuntovitis >BIG HUGS< to Emily

Best to take her to the GP to check on her.

Carry on using different wipes for each eye, washing your hands in between- is infectious as Ben said.

Well she has had a whole banana for her tea and Kyra is giving her her bed time bottle now. She perked right up after her banana and her eyes have cleared a wee bit after we have cleared them. I mean they have stayed a bit clearer.

Fingers crossed. If she is fine after a morning clean then I wont bother with the doc as from Kyras wbsite it is often a reaction to dirt rubbed into the eye and it just needs cleared through.

Poor thing though, a new tooth, a snotty nose, a temperature and eye goop all within 36 hours! And she still tried to smile. wub.gif

may well all be connected to the new tooth - my nieces used to get terrific earaches and snotty noses too as each new tooth came through

come up and see me...make me smile

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO -What a Ride!:D

Hope she feels better soon, I remember having it when I was a kid ('bout 1842!), the sensation of being unable to open your eyes when you wake up is not very nice at all.
New car, caviar, four star daydream, think I'll buy me a football team.

Daniel had a mucky eye for a couple of months in his 1st year. Docs said it was quite normal and didnt require treating unless it persisted. it did eventually clear on its own. Daniel is getting so cheeky now, I cant believe how much they learn in such a short space of time!!!

Poor little sausage couldnt open her right eye this morning until she got in the shower.

She should be back with Kyra from the childminder any minute so I will find out how she has been. Yesterday she was ok during the day.

I will tell her you were all asking for her, thank you. biggrin.gif

I am amzed the childminder allowed Emily through the door - it is so infectious that it could quickly spread through all the kids that go there!
