After much deliberation and saving of money I've decided to keep my Puma. I love it waaay too much to get rid. Now I've moved back to the Isle of Man, I'm using it daily for work and I have an issue with my windscreen washers. I've had a search on here but can't find anything that exactly fits what's happening.

I pressed the stalk to wash the windscreen the other day and after a half hearted very weak attempt to come out, the wash solution gave up the ghost, so it looked like it had run out. Indeed, when I topped it up yesterday it took a lot of fluid (but there'd been no warning light that levels were low). However, the washer still isn't working. I don't hear the pump when I press the stalk, no fluid comes out but the wipers DO work (it's exactly the same front and rear). Also, having checked the washer fluid level this morning, it's no longer full, despite no fluid coming out (but I see no puddles on the floor either). Am I right in thinking that the wipers and washer works off the same fuse?

I had some work done to the car the other week and I know the mechanic took the front driver side wheel off. Could this be affecting anything? I'm unsure as to whether it's gunked up or whether the pump or fuse has gone. I have no tools and only my work car park in which to have a look, so any easy fixes for me to check would be very much appreciated before I call the mechanic back out.

In other news, I've been told that the rear wheelarches will be purely a case of rubbing back and filling, which is a relief. Plus I also need new brake lines/hoses and power steering hoses. I'm also going to get the front wishbones replaced - but then the car will be as good as new - well, as much as possible for a car that's so old, if it were human it would be taking its GCSEs!

In the wiki is a guide on cleaning the blockage in the wiper washer system with pictures. If it has never been done it could be the cause.

You think it might be that? I wondered if it was more electrical, but I'll definitely give that a try. Thanks!

Turns out it's the motor that's gone. What fun! Posted Image Luckily the mechanic has found a brand new replacement for about £12.

While at it may as well clean the filter because it must be gunky and may have over worked the motor

Luckily he did, and you were right - the amount of detritus that came out.... Bleurgh!! So I guess the motor going killed two birds with one stone.
