Hi.
Just bought a 1.7 Puma for a bargain price as the previous owner is emigrating tomorrow. On acceleration in 1st it seems to have a number of flat spots. Mainly at about 4000rpm. Its fine in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. Could it just need a service or could it be a possible breather blockage? Im unsure as im not particularly a ford person. Well, not until now anyway as im over the moon with the cars overall performance.
Cheers
Dan

welcome biggrin.gif
when you say flat spot, do you mean it hesitates or revs shot up but go no faster?

cam belt been changed?
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Sounds like the first gear torque limiter to me

Agreed. First gear feels really lumpy until you get used to the limiter!

whats it like to disable? or remove? im pretty mechanically minded but im no gearbox specialist or anything. im pretty sure the gearbox mount is on its way out if this could effect it? it bangs on acceleration and on braking but never any other time.
Cheers for your advice

It's a simple wire to the gear box to cut tongue.gif

I have a switch on mine, that I have in the dash, so I can turn it on and off when I feel like, (mostly have it so I have full torque).

Prob wouldn't recommend doing it if your mount is b0rked tho, as it will naturally add more stress to the situation...
