I know I've mentioned this as part of another topic, but thought I'd give it a whirl in a thread of it's own.

My reversing lights aren't working.

Have changed both bulbs with known working items, still no luck.

Checked the hand/guide book to see if there is a fuse specifically for them but there doesn't appear to be.

I can therefore only surmise that the reverse light switch itself is faulty.

Has anyone else had this problem, or can they shed any light on it at all? I guess it's on the gearbox itself but whereabouts and how much might it cost to replace?

I had this when I had my clutch changed.
Open bonnet and reach down to the gear box area, wiggle the plugs and make sure they are all in. And hope thats it!

Gawd - if it's that easy, I'll be over the moon!

Will indeed give it all the wiggling of it's life later...

Cheers for the heads up - will report back.

If you need a new switch:

Reversing Light Switch - Finis 1029819 (to 12/04/2000), Finis 1112601 (from 12/04/2000).

The Haynes Fiesta Manual (3397) can answer a lot of your questions.

Rick - you are potentially a life saver!

If my wiggling doesn't do it, I'll have alook at the switch itself...

So 'tis a potential problem then. Did you fix it yourself?

I wouldn't worry too much about it if it proves to be a pain to fix - it's not an MOT requirement.

Could be wrong, but I think that cable is connected to the reversing light sensor in the gear box (ignore the pink arrow that is for the filler point)

searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Hi,

Yes, I have had this. It was the switch. Really easy to replace, just unclip the wiring connection to the switch (on the gearbox), unscrew the switch & replace it. Push wiring clip back on. Don't worry, the gearbox oil won't drain out!

Anyone know if this'd be the right part for the job?

UPDATE!

Well, after ordering that item from eBay, I had a look at fitting it this weekend.

Hardest part of the job was getting enough clearance under the front to get under the bumper to have a look! Pu wouldn't go up my ramps as the bumper's lip was too low!

Still, I drove it up onto some old paving slabs and that was enough room to get under and have a look.

I then found I didn't have a spanner the right size BUT managed to get the old switch out with one of those adjustable spanners that I usually loathe using as they slip and take all the skin off your knuckles.

Once I swapped it over, VOILA! Reversing lights ahoy - working perfectly now, so thank you VERY much to all those who suggested different things to try.

I've kept the old one jut in case - the only thing I can see is that one of the terminals was slightly whiter than the other - I guess very slightly corroded? I reckon it would have worked with a bit of a clean, still, when the new switch was less than £10, I figured it was cheap enough to just replace the whole thing.

wkd! thats all it was on an old car of mine.

I suppose if u think the old switch may be ok....u could clean the contacts and test it with a multimeter? if it works, flog it back on eBay again as a used working part?

I like the cut of your jib!

I reckon I'll just keep it as a spare though. You never know... wink.gif
