Hi,
I don't think the stopping power / ability of the brakes on my FRP is Brilliant? certainly not as good as the brakes on my standard red puma (1.7 engine)
The brakes on my standard red puma (1.7 engine) are very good they really do stop, however I don't have the same confidence in the brakes on my FRP, although the car is stopping, the stopping ability / stopping power is
not as good as my red puma? I would have thought the FRP brakes would, if anything be better than the standard 1.7 puma brakes ?
The discs & pads (on my FRP) are above the minimum thickness on the front and the rear discs & pads (Mintex) have only been on for 2000 miles, I changed the brake fluid 18 months ago,
8 new pistons were fitted to the front callipers 3 years ago - so I would imagine the front callipers should be fine?
Does anyone have any advice / suggestions please?

The FRP 'should' be far superior..but remember the FRP braking system has much more thermal cabability but not necessarily on the first touch, as they take a lot more work to get up to temperature..
Pad choice plays a big part... also the original Alcon discs are very heavy dudty and do take a fair few touches to get warmed up... the bell and rotor system I fit now definitely warms up quicker in that respect.. This is also the reason I use a good quality road pad (Textar) instead of the 1144 race pad originally specced for the car which I think is crazy really..
Also on the rear, the OE pad from Ford does bite quicker than the aftermarket stuff it's made by Ferodo and there is a noticeable difference i'd say in response...
Feel free to bring it round if you want me to take a look..
Regards
Chris

Hi Chris
Thank you for your reply.
I am not sure how Good the brakes should be on the FRP ? my brakes to me don't seem that powerful? if I am going along steadily and brake, the car is braking, if you come to a junction at slower speed and brake, the car seems to keep going a bit / roll
on,it is Not a positive braking action ? where as on my standard puma if you come to a junction and brake, the brakes a far more responsive and the car doesn't roll on - if that makes sense.
Another quick question - I am having a whisker of difficulty now & again selecting 3rd gear in my Red (standard puma - 76,000 miles) started doing it about 18 months ago, not too bad just annoying at times - is this a problem you are familiar with?
Roger.

mm..they should be better than that ..pop up and i'll take you out in 330 quickly to get a comparison
the gear selection issue sounds very much like the spring has snapped on the selector gate mech. in the gearbox...when this happens you have to feel your way into third rather than it springing into position properly
annoying job to do for a £2 part lol.. may as well replace the linkage pole to the box whilst your at it to restore the proper feel..
Regards
Chris
