Hi people!

I know I haven’t got my Puma yet, but would 17' wheels and 30mm lowered suspension make a lot of difference to the ride, performance and handling?

Cheers! smile.gif

Yes it would make a difference especially if you use decent tyres and suspension kit.

defenetly... the 17's dont doo much, it just stiffens up the ride alittle, and makes for a bigger turn sircle, thus slowing the car down a bitt in the acselleration stage. your choise in rubber wil also make a diffrence. (hard rubber vs soft and all that)

lowering on the other hand makes a bigg difference, depends on what kit you get ofcource, but if you go for stiffer springs (obviusley) you wil get less boddey roll and wil therfor be able to take turns even faster.

of cource it looks good to..

I`we got 17 and a 35 mm drop.

Hmm, I don't know.

I'll just get a Puma first and perhaps borrow some 17s for a day and see what the difference is like.

Depends how fast you intend to drive. If you drive hard it handles worse (bounces and bump steers all over the shop), if you tend to just cruise around and look at your reflection in shop windows it'll be fine.

If you want to know how it's done properly drive an FRP
I recommend you leave the springs/dampers alone and get better tyres/wheels/brakes. Just speaking from experience...

I dont want the buggy look! What would you recommend 30mm drop or 40mm drop? Would I need to make any adjustments to the arches?

I think 35mm is what most people have. if you look at cartmans link you'll see how it looks, imagine the gap under the arches with out that 35mm.

Before spending money on lowering, why not try loading your boot with 4 slabs. This will drop the back end (dont suggest you try driving though as this will not give true feel ) and allow you to work out what looks best.

I have G-MAX suspension (springs+dampers) -30mm and 17s , a slight inner wing mod was needed , simular to FRP, . I have had lowering springs which are ok, but the suspension kit is tops for the money, you get alot less body roll but it doesnt shake your fillings out, its actually smoother than just lowering springs, i think the price of the kit is sub £250.
And it definately handles better.

Just to get it straight in my mind once and for all, is it the 17" wheels (which are 10mm wider) that cause probs with inner arch or lowering 30mm or a bit of both - i.e. do i need to go to someone who knows what they are doing for the wheels or just the lowering?...

...and, does the fact that the 17s are wider mean that the track is a bit wider or does the offset compensate?

What sort of inner wing mod is needed for the 17mm, 30mm. Does the 30mm drop fill out the entire arch?

Nope, doesn't fill the whole arch. The distance from the top of the tyre to the wheel arch (205/40r17) is about 75mm IIRC. You can lower it further if you want, but you'll start to cause problems for your self the lower you go. you shouldn't need to do anything to the arch for 30mm.
