Hi, I have about a grand to spend on mods to my 98 Kat and was wondering where I should start. Ive read lots of the threads here (great site!) and list is looking like this:

Fox 5 Evo 16" alloys
Eibach lowering springs (without uprated dampers to begin with)
Powerflow exhaust
Bluefin chip.

Is there anything else I should be considering (though theres always Xmas!)?
Grateful for any advice...

Mister T

steer clear of fox alloys, they are soft and will bend. I had a set and managed to bend them thru general use. left a nasty vibration at 60 thru to 70... or sometimes 70 thru to 80...

and no it wasn't the balancing... had it cjecked four times... even had the tyres swapped round 180 degrees...

Cheers, in that case I may go for Mille Miglia HT3 or Evo5...unless anyone has had similar problems with them?

searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

I would definitely steer well clear of Fox alloys, had some 17" 5 spoke ones on my old 1.6, looked very nice to begin with, but bend and buckle like mad...the front ones were almost square! :|

I would recommend and an induction kit just for the grin factor! biggrin.gif

I'm in the same boat mate, but I've got about £1500 to spend, my list is as follows, so far;

*Tinted windows- DONE
*17inch alloys- Milie Miglia Evo 5, Toora plat8 or Wheelmania Jades.
*G max springs (30mm drop)
*Clifford concept 300 with tilt motion and intelli-start
*K&N Induction kit

Forget the budget alloys like fox and Boos, they are pooe. As well as 16s, they wont do the puma justice. Even though millie miglia, Kahns and Toora's are expensive they are superb quality. You gota spend to get quality. You have to drop the motor otherwise it will look like a buggy!

your probably right, once fitting on bigger wheels, bigger brakes are also needed.

Thanks everyone, been lookin into the induction kit since the posts and seems like a v effective way of getting more power so its on the list (prob at expense of bluefin at this stage)! Still not sure bout 17s - I know they will look better but worried i may create a set up where i feel every grain of tarmac, theres also the impact when combined with lowering of the tyres catching on the wheel arch, etc or is it easy to sort?

Out of interest what would a typical 17 tyre profile be - 195 40 17? 205 40 17 seems to increase overall diameter and extra probs with running wider rubber...

Any thoughts appreciated!! :?

I have 17s and G-MAX suspension -30mm, slight inner wing work needed , rubber size is 205 40 17, all work was carried out at PUMA BUILD, come up and see Alan Farmer and try my PUMA it has most of the mods you are interested in, big brakes, induction kit, strut brace, ECU ect.

Why has everyone got a downer on Fox alloys, i've had a set for 2 years and had no problems (except for the centre cap badge falling off!!) I think they are ok - especially for the price!
And Rob is right - his car is very nice and the mods are done to top standard, and you can tell the difference, unlike some so called 'mods' avaliable.

Ermm....no.

It's an effective way of getting more noise though (and moving the torque band higher up the rev range without increasing it) laugh.gif
