I went to my First Meet at Castle Coombe [which was absoutly brilliant & I can now put faces to people]
I wondered what we called a group of lovely Pumas.Theres a pride of Lions, a gaggle of geese so why not a name for Pumas. cool.gif
What is the collective name for a group of Pumas/Pumai -

for example :- A Pride of Pumas

A Purr of Pumas

A Growl of Pumas -[FRG]

What do you guys & girls think? cool.gif

From wiki answers...

What is a group of cats called?

- A group of cats is called a clowder or a clutter

- If they are cats a mother cat has just had...a "litter"

- Most cats live solitary lives with the exception of lions. In this case it would be called a pack or pride.

I'm with Kate on this one. biggrin.gif If it was good enough for Alan Partridge and his 'Lexi' for a gathering of more than one Lexus, it's alright for me. biggrin.gif

Pumaii gets used a fair bit round here, I thought it was double "ii" though, rather than single.

The 'i' thing only works on words ending in 'us' though doesn't it?

radius = radii
hippopotamus= hippopotami

surely it would be more correct, as done with other words ending in 'a' to add an 'e' i.e. Pumae
as in

mucosa = mucosae
larva = larvae
amoeba = amoebae

However....

according to Wikipedia the puma is a solitary animal therefore wouldn't be found in a group, consequently doesn't require a collective noun

given that they are usually solitary, but we do get them together at pre-arranged times, why not call such a collection...
