Driving Off In Only 1St Gear Hearing A Grinding Noise

i wonder if any1 can help. when i start my car. only sometimes.... i drive off in 1st gear then when changing to second theres a grindin noise. only between them gears. but only happens on odd occasions.

Most probly the ABS check it happens at 13Mph, nothing to worry about

As the man ^^ says. It should do it every time, leave the stereo off for a while and you should hear it at about 15mph +/- a bit.

Most new owners ask this question! As already said, it is just the ABS testing itself. It only does it when you first pull away after starting the engine.

Out of interest do any cars do this? Never noticed it happening in any other car I've been in.

My Focus does it and that is on an 09 plate. Its more of a clonk on the new cars rather than the grinding noise you get with the Puma's.
I may be getting older but my right foot still works perfectly.

Probably means my dads 56 plate Focus does it as well and that I've just never noticed when I've been in that, is it as noticeable in the Focus?

It is when the stereo is off. To be honest I got that used to it I dont notice it anymore.

Have to say I wondered the same thing when I first heard it, then I was told its the ABS self-checking.
