what have people used to paint there disk centres on the brake disks??

i painted mine last weekend with hammerite smooth silver and it looked cool

but went out yesterday and had a spirited drive lets say and once i came back the paint was all melting and look pants now.

i thought people said hammerite was good enough for the heat resistance.

on my old puma i used proper silver caliper paint but its only in a spray can so it means keep spraying it into a cap and then painting it on and it is also a bit too silver.

so anyway what have others used as i am going to strip the paint off tomorrow and start again and dont really wanna have to do this again.

thankenyou

oh yeah also repainted my calipers wink.gif

alan.

oh and the disks were rusty as it hadnt been driven in four weeks wink.gif

This maybe a silly question but did you make sure the disc centres were fully cleaned first?

Nice calipers by the way wink.gif

yes mate i wire brushed all the rust off then brushed all the dust off.

think the brakes just get too hot for that hammerite.

going over to redo them in a couple of hours. got some paint stripper just got too find some heat resistant caliper paint when halfords opens at 10 smile.gif

I thought Hammerite would have been up to the job, you must have been cooking them brakes Mr Alan stickpoke.gif

Used hammerite smooth on this car and the FRP no problems.

Must go on very thin and be left to dry thoroughly. I can only imagine you'd get the problems you had by applying too thick and driving before it was fully dry...

PS: I've been told I brake hard too wink.gif

Yo Big dog!!! You are a crazy man!! lol

I have used Hammerite Smooth silver too and never had a problem. I'd say it wasn't dry enough stickpoke.gif . You can get halfords 'very high temp paint' that can even go on manifolds, exhausts etc, so that should do the trick, or you could just go easy on the brakes..... roflmao.gif roflmao.gif roflmao.gif

I would also be concerned about appling the paint to thickly.
I used to own a Fiesta Zetec S and they had a small washer on one of the stubs to hold the disc in place (I'm sure pumas have these too) Now when anyone decided to fit 17" alloys, we were advised to remove this washer as it caused vibrations similar to unbalanced wheels at around 60mph. So seeing as the FRP has 17's as standard, maybe the uneven levels of paint could do the same thing?

I used some 'heat-proof' paint on mine. It got hot, started smoking, turned brown and has started to fall off.

not sure why it melted really.

it was not driven for 9 days after i had applied it so im sure with the weather weve had it would have dried in that time.

scrapped it with a scraper today and it came off so easy very strange.

it was definately the hammerite smooth silver in the blue tin.

anyway bought the heat resistant stuff today for manifolds etc etc so ill have to see how that goes, hopefully it dont turn brown like davids lol.

p.s, how the bloody hell do you paint it on without getting brush marks in it 9.gif 9.gif

got some 2000 wet and dry paper so gonna smooth it off in the week cool.gif

I paint mine black and the paint tin says Hamerite metal paint smooth black and I don't ever get peeling/melting ja_stupid.gif
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale
