We fitted a rear beam with the rear disc conversion fitted to a 2001 1.7 Puma.
The brakes were better and the car felt more stable when stopping from high speeds, we then decided to see what the ABS was like so took the car up to 80 m.p.h and jumped on the brakes this was the bit that surprised me as the car just stopped without the ABS coming in until we got to 30 m.p.h.
I would say that the brakes are a good 15-20% better.

There are a few pics below of the work carried out today.

Any body else intrested in this disc coversion please e.mail me Pumabuild@blueyonder.co.uk

we have a car with it fitted that you can try first so you can try before you buy biggrin.gif

We run out of time today so i promise that next week i will do a test with 2 puma's one on Std brakes and one with the rear disc conversion

With old drum beam removed

After driving home 60 miles, i thought i would give the disc conversion a good workout in the forests roads, the car seems to pull up alot quicker and there seems to be alot more even feel , this combined with the EBC setup on the front and Goodridge Brake Lines all round has vastly improved the standard system, also the car doesnt seem to go as light and twitchy on the back end under heavy HEAVY braking.

Cheers mate Rob

Just a note re rear disks and hanbrakes!

Heard of this happening a few times and girl at old works boyfriends' golf did this - on a steep slope - it went backwards across the road and straight into a wall - bang - nice damage!

...when the rear brakes have got hot and people park and put on the handbrake on a slope - do it properly!!!

..... as they cool down they can contract a little so releasing the handbrake a fraction....... it may be enough that you can wave your car bye bye!

Make sure you put it on well - may want to leave it in gear as well!
if you don't you may have the opportunity to see it roll off on its own!!

Not a problem if you put the handbrake on correctly!!

QUOTE
Well its a month since and the discs are tops over 1000 miles covered, COME ON PEOPLE GET RID OF THOSE NASTY DRUMS.

Even my Ford dealer said what a top job, they also said they look as if they grew there a good comment me thinks.

You traded in that black puma yet for a large lump of a lard-ass car wink.gif ?

I made rob put his pride and joy on the rolling road yesterday and it was giving a very healthy 140bhp this is why he decided to keep it.
But he now has ford salesmen snapping at his heels like sharks
