Vague recollection of this being discussed a few years back. Seem to remember th quick shift available at the time being of little benefit as the Puma came with its own "quick shift" as standard

AS the Puma gearshift is like a rifle bolt then you can soon master quick changes biggrin.gif - at no expense.

No experience with this on the Puma - I did have a B&M shifter on my previous car (Nissan 200SX which has an awfully "loose" gearshift as standard) and it was noisy as hell, lots of rattles.

The standard shifter on the Puma is excellent, IMO it doesn't need any shorter throw.

Quick shifters also dramatically shorten the life of a gearbox.
S*** LRX, usually belting between Dover and Maidstone by any means except the M20

Weitec GT Coilovers, Powerflex bushes, Milltek full FRP exhaust, 280mm front brakes
Low slung, taught, powerful and stops on a dime.

Before I bought my car, this one was of my "planned" mods. But as soon as I drove it off that forecourt, it quickly disappeared from this list. The gearshift in the Puma is one of my favorite things about the car.

Ta.

It's been a few year since I was last behind the wheel of a Puma but I do remember it having a somewhat rifle bolt shift action. Still a decent shifter should still make for more positive shifts and safer when power shifting. Plus reduced throw.

It increases the forces applied to the selector forks within the gearbox, causing them to wear quite a bit faster. Talk to any gearbox specialist, they'll back this up.

If you want to shorten the throw, you're far better off sawing a couple of inches off the existing gear lever. Any pseudo-benefit a quick shifter claims to give will be equally matched by doing this. It's not like the IB5 box has a bad shift to begin with either, and the snappy Puma gear shift is a thing of beauty. If you're missing gear shifts in a Puma then you need to learn how to change gear properly.
