I have two issues with my car at the moment that I think may be related. Wanted to get some opinions.

When driving, I am seeing the doors open indicator light flick on and off with some regularity. This despite all doors, boot and bonnet being shut correctly. The second issue is that when parked up, the alarm will sometimes go off (Horn and indicators flashing) despite nothing appearing to be remiss.

Any ideas if these could be related and what the prognosis may be? I can only think its a sensor that is faulty and the alarm then thinks that one of the doors has been opened.

Try the alarm sensor check for the alarm it will tell you which one/opening is faulty. The guide is in the wiki

My "door open" light was on last week and turned out to be a faulty switch/sensor on the bonnet

First check, unplug the bonnet switch at the join under the slam panel to the left of the right headlight and check for resistance open and closed.

If you want to rule out the bonnet switch, bridge the car side of the connect to isolate the switch and try that for a week.

Similar procedure on the boot, unclip the panel with the four tabs and the rightmost one will move up and down, not as much travel but it works the same. More wiring there and I can't remember which pins but you're again checking for resistance and can also bridge on the car side to isolate.

If that doesn't sort it you need the doors in bits, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I have some similar alarm problems and think I may be at the 'door in bits' stage, does anyone have any more info on that?

I took my Puma to a Ford dealership, expecting the best diagnosis, but they told me the diagnostics on an S reg Puma is so old that their current machines have a hard time with it!!! Anyway, the diagnosis was that the boot switch is definitely broken, but the last 4 times that the alarm has been triggered it has been by the passenger side door switch although neither door switch is operating correctly...!!

There is an alarm switch sensor test in the wiki.

For some reason it doesn't trigger test mode in my car, the dealership confirmed they couldn't get it to go to test mod either, hence I think next step is probably strip the doors down...
