HI,
I am looking to purchase two new front tyres for my FRP, I am a whisker confused though.

Two of my current tyres are 215/40/17 83 W (Fronts)

My other 3 current tyres are 215/40/17 87 W (Rears & Spare)

What is the difference between the 83W & 87W?

After reading the tyre review I think I will go for the Pirelli P-Zero Nero, again I am a whisker confused, on the Mytyres website they list a

Pirelli P ZERO NERO GT 215/40/17 87W XL at £119.10 and a Pirelli P ZERO NERO 215/40/17 87W XL at £129.10 Apart from the price what is the difference ? Which one do I need the GT at £119.10 or the Non GT at £129.10?

It has to do with weight... I don't recal what the FRP has as a minimum requierment, but I'm shure if you google it you can find it.

If you want to learn more about the tyre markings, check out this info :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_code

Sure these are not 4x4 tyres, I have to buy XL tyres for mine.

The 83 tyres can carry 487kg the 87 545kg - remembering that this is a quarter of the total loading...

Soz I use Zero Neros on mine but I haven't got access to check the load rating... pity as they were bought some years ago before the rise of small sporty 4x4s

The higher the number (for the same given letter - i.e. "W" rating), normally means that the wall is "stiffer" and takes more force to distort it.

The original FRP tyres were Pirelli P7000 215/40 ZR 17 83W:

Best information is on the Pirelli website:
http://www.pirelli.c...en/car/catalog#

“Non-GT” range:
http://www.pirelli.c...season%3DSUMMER
Pirelli don’t list a 215/40ZR 17 size for this tyre any more.
http://www.pirelli.c..._nero.tab?tab=8

“GT” range:
http://www.pirelli.c...season%3DSUMMER
“P ZERO NERO™ GT is the evolution of the P ZERO NERO™: enhanced product performance and wider fitments range, targeting those consumers who want to fit Pirelli on their medium-large saloons and sporty cars.
Materials and tread design have been optimised, introducing the latest technological developments. The new compound has a balanced content of silica in order to enhance wear resistance without compromising the sportive feeling of the product in both dry and wet conditions.”
The 215/40ZR 17 size is listed:
http://www.pirelli.c...ro_gt.tab?tab=8

It looks like the “GT” range is replacing the “Non-GT” range.

Hi Roger...

Go to Oakham tyres to get the Nero's fitted... just mention Racing Puma Owners club and you'll get a 10% discount..you may need to print a voucher I have tho.. ;)

they have some excellent 'leverless' tyre fitting equipment there that fits them in a very tidy way... makes a huge difference to how well they will balance up
