nothing wrog with them as such.... i just think in the case of the rear beam they totally spoil the ride, as the rear beam is already stiff in nature as it is....

so i'm going back to standard

I'm going to be getting powerflex rear bushes in the next month, although on a standard Puma...whats the effect of having a really stiff rear beam? You said spoil the ride? Are you able to explain how? Cheers smile.gif

OK, i'll explain a little more fully....

on my last fiesta (just sold) i did the powerflex 'thing' all round, and yes it did improve the handling without doubt, but the extra road noise and harshness to the quality of the ride was really quite noticable....

The rear beam ones were done last on a different day, and aftrerwards i really felt that the car was spoilt, the harshness on the backend was awful, and it reminded me very clearly of when i had this done to my FRP a few years ago sad.gif now, in the case of the FRP...yes iv'e got used to it and lived with it....

now, more recently... iv'e just bought a Fiesta Ghia X which is REALLY nice to drive as it has the Twin Cam 1.4 Zetec S in it...(same as 1.4 puma)... as i own my own hydraulic press anyway and can replace the bushes with relative ease.. lol ii've decided to use oem items, apart from the front rear bush, i'm using the slightly more solid FRP bush instead... the handling and feel of the car already is VASTLY improved and no crappy harshness and unwanted tyre noise either smile.gif

so i'm definatly not going to screw up the ride by fitting those bushes on the rear.... hence going to buy that sealey tool (or maybe make my own equivelant) so can swap out all rear beam bushes back to standard again...incl. FRP... smile.gif

so if someone wants them they can have them for free... lol

smile.gif

ps... the standard bushes in the front Wishbone are around £3 front and around £5-6 for the rear FRP style one... huh.gif not bad eh wink.gif

Road noise, not too worried about that, i don't think; Milltek can hide that wink.gif
Harshness to the ride (I'm guessing you mean like a go-cart?) I think I'd be ok with this...

I guess saying it is different to experiencing it...atleast I can't say you didn't warn me wink.gif lol

Being able to interchange the bushes yourself must be a real help, and along with the other stuff you do (ie/Brake servicing) I'm getting the impression you make a living out of working on cars?

The sealey rear bush tool is fine as long as it is not abused, our
1st one was ruined by the use of impact guns.

Correct set up and keeping the thread lubed will extend its life, although
the bush removal is still tight to say the least.

Excellent advice, thanks eldoodarino! good.gif

Were not interested in the go-kart feel to our car either so I too will go down the replacement standard bush after reading this. The front rear bush also feels like its loose so is also on the list of things to do, and again I'll follow your advice and go with the FRP bush smile.gif Is this bush very difficult to change also?

It was suggested I replace the lower arms with new pre-bushed items, this sounds more expensive, is this the case? unsure.gif
