For the performance on offer I think they've over-priced it, shame as I bet it will be a good drive

For the package you get and an insurance group of 13E I'd disagree. I'd want to pay less, of course!

But we are talking about a car which has the smae features as the ST170, however its quicker... and cheaper (compared to the ST170's first retail price)

I worked with Ford on the launch of the Fiesta in Spain during 2003, I know what a great little car the Fiesta is, especially in terms of the overall driving experience. My concern is that people will look at the BHP and instantly dismiss it - I'm sure enthusiasts who are looking for an overall package will have it on their list but with the Clio 182 Cup being a similar price I think they'll be up against it

I'd like to try this when a test drive opportunity arises. If it isn't sufficiently good I am quite confident (especially after reading the 'Anyone gone from a faster car to a Puma' thread which I sincerely hope Ford is reading) that Ford has completely lost the plot and will lose a generation of new customers in the process.

It's also important not to be impressed just becuse it's a 'tight, shiny new car with a nice stereo and groovy dials' type scenario, you've got to look through that and get a feel of the quality of whats underneath.

How did you work that out...

Base Focus ST price £16k
Base Fiesta ST price £13.5k

Lines up with the major competitors...

If you don't want to pay the tag price give it 6 months... they'll have marketing incentives on it (0% and Free insurance wink.gif )

Colin,
I'm sorry but I think you're talking rubbish... the new Focus is an amazing drive and will continue to tops the sales charts... the Fiesta ST I'm sure will appeal as it's the fastest Fiesta ever... and with the Fiesta Zetec-S and Zetec-S TDCI are good for luke-warm variants. Ford are doing exactly the right thing... the Vignale has just been signed off too...

I would be interested to see the difference in lap time between a fiesta ST and a FRP.

Ford said the Fiesta ST could lap as quick as the focus RS (almost).

Should be somewhat quicker, after all, the FRP is 5 year old technology now. FRP still looks 100X better than the FST though.

Hmm, if it wasn't for the Clio 182 Cup it might be a good buy. Problem with it is it still looks like a mk6 Fiesta which isn't the most beautiful of cars. Probably good to drive, but just a bit 'boring' somehow. I'd take the Clio, not only does it look better, it's also a fair bit quicker. Might fall apart though.
David - Clio Trophy now sold! Megane R26 on the way - ETA March 1st 2008.

Whilst I respect your point of view I think their model range is DULL.
No real flagship and you should know better as an FRP owner that a car that looks like a breadbin offers no taster to an enjoyable drive even if it does drive well. It's like having the best tasting food that looks grey and mouldy. The new Focus looks better than the old one in a conventional sense (like a pristine bean can looks better than a dented one) and show me a Ford, however universally crap will always sell well (think '91 Escort).

Anyway, I will always vote with my wallet and it seems that I won't be buying a Ford in the near future unless they come up with something genuinely interesting with some sort of USP to qualify it's existance. I fell they are slipping into the 'old' type of Ford owner- bought by people who never buy anything other than Fords and companies buying huge fleets whilst private buyers pay through the nose.

If I wanted something that drives nice and looks boring, I'd buy an Audi...for something ugly/distinctive a BMW. Where does that leave Ford? You must have rose tinted specs if you thing the Fiesta ST looks good as a car, will leave the driving bit until I try one out...or maybe I won't bother as I won't like it anyway  ja_bebe.gif

when I bought my kat I did not worry about trade-in price - it is a great car and I have no intention of parting with it for as long as I can keep it.

When the time comes though I shall need to look for something different. At that time I wonder what the trade-in values of the new ST will be like. Not as good as the Puma I am quite sure. This alone may well put off a lot of potential customers - just look at the way most Fords depreciate.

Colin, I figure you'd love the Ford range if it's dull seeing as you drive a Honda laugh.gif

I wouldn't buy one (Focus or Fiesta)... I just think your attack on the ST was a bit harsh... like I said the Ford model range is going in the right direction... albeit slowly.

You're obviously not a lover of fine cheeses, caviar, frog legs, sheeps brains... mouldy, grey or not very attractive yet considered a delicacy... laugh.gif

Also I do agree... people will vote with their feet... so if you see massive discounts and marketing incentives in 12 months... then no ones buying...
