If you look at other forums and club sites for example SSC (Saxo Sports Club) they have a club you can join for a fee and get discounts and the like from car part suppliers and modifiers but they also have a forum that is free for everyone and anyone to view and post but certain parts of the forum are not accessable to anyone who is not a member of the club - meet discussions and pictures sections (like the old puma-p site).

I think charging for club benefits is good, but charging someone who wants to post to a forum or find out about their 'once in a lifetime' problem with their Puma or post a simple question or advert that could be of interest to other car enthusiast's is bad.

I used to work for an ISP (sorry) and i'm one of those fools who believes the internet is/should be a free information resource and charging people for information from it is like a public library charging for all of its books....

My 2 penneth.

Membership fee should "add value" to the organisation, in whatever guise that be.

Agree that, perhaps, paying membership would be good if it got preferential rates at supplier / dealers. Next big question is, who's going to pay for the time/effort to market this to the world??

Good luck, I'd buy in for a nominal fee, depending on when it was due.

Scotty makes a good point. Sounds like a good way forward. We'd get maximum participation. It would be a shame that new users of the site couldn't make contact with the group as a whole unless he/she stumps up the dosh. Last time I checked we weren't in the business of selling information!!

Who would control the money?

It would require a bank account, which would require two signatories.

Annual accounts would have to be published...

Again, this club is dynamic because we have no structure, just a group of like minded individuals.

Having seen the BMW bike club disintegrate because of internal feuding, its put me off membership schemes for life.

My 2ps worth....

nothing i hate to pay to play

the hole ethos (???) of the internet is free information easily accesible and nothing stops me quicker than paying for something i havent tried
(i drove my kat away 15 mins after the test drive wink.gif)

i think a charge would just split the community (as free sites would spring up) thus depleting the valuable resourse that u offer

maybe advertising is an option (tap ford on the shoulder an offer them a nice banner space ??)

however i would gladly pay an extra 5 quid on things in the shop to support this site wink.gif

pps. is that pumapeople sticker for the rear window in the shop i want 1
plus a keyring and silver badges wink.gif
