well finally decided it was time too start making the rest of 241 up too scratch after spending alot of money on the exterior.

got all four wheel arches to do and then all of underneath.

i want to get all the surface rust de-rusted and prepared to try and keep the rust away, and then waxoyl all the bits that need doing.

when looking underneath now its all got surface rust on it and i want too catch it before its too late.

after alot of tips from ed and vas i thought id start this weekend as i want a quiet one due too two weekends of stag do's coming up blink.gif

anyway the rear springs are better than the fronts and they still had lots of surface rust on them and the rest of the chassis parts and things were looking tatty too.

time to get too work.

how they looked.

After a good hour of wire brushing blink.gif

All surface areas with brown rust colouring treated with KURUST made by hammerite, turns blue when its fighting the rust.

After Kurust all rust colour turns too black and it leaves a strong rust protective layer over the metal.

A couple of hours after painting all metal parts that used to be black and re-painting the arch like it used to be

And the finished project;

im very happy with the results but not looking forward too another three and all the underneath, but it will be worth it in the long run.

brands hatch tomorrow though so it will have too wait till monday woo woo.

Looks good Al and a good guide for Sian as to all the work SHE has to do to keep FRUP up to scratch. After all FRUP is her daily work carriage so she should make sure he's fit and well.

Seriously however can you confirm that the jacking points are the sill areas infront of the rear arches and under the front of the doors .

Cheers Sian sends her best wishes having just read this thread and wants to know when she's going to see you next 7.gif 7.gif

Ps we're back from hols to give you lots of grief.

hi ya dave thanks.

i never use the jacking points on the seals as dont want too damage the underseal paint.

do not use a jack on the front of an frp either mate.

the frp can fall off of the jack as when you lift the front the back wheel lifts off to.

use a trolley jack.

the points i use are just behind the back of the front wheel on the chassis/lower arm and the rear i use the strong section of chassis thats there in front on the back tyre.

get working dave lol.

Not yet mate, may do in the future, but I'll wait till the Milly needs some work doing, then get it done, but knowing me, it'll never get done and i'll be to old.

I agree, it looks rubbish. laugh.gif

Na, just kidding, mate. Looks really good. My version of complicated suspension cleaning only extends as far as spraying inside the wheel arch with a hose. good.gif

hello mate

used what mr vas told me

smooth black hammerite.

calipers i painted with silver hammerite and the disk centres are sprayed with high temp silver paint from halfords.

disks are rusty only because i sprayed them with water and have not drove it since. itll come off as soon as i brake.

i was amazed just how rusty the underside is after 6 years once i started wire brushing things. blink.gif blink.gif
