Do not have the 35mm spring supplied with the MS Design Body Kit. They are pooe.

I have changed to Eibach and the difference is incredible.

Did you change the dampers as well as the springs??

I have no idea what dampers do. Can you explain ?

Also, the lowering springs came as a kit and I would have thought if replacement dampers were neccessary than they would have been part of the kit.

I would've thought he really meant shock absorbers, not "dampers"... it's generally not recommded to drop your car without also paying attention to the shocks...

Technically, they are dampers, as the remove the oscillations in the spring by "damping" out the springs natural desire to bounce.

The the real shock absorber is the rubber bumpstop that prevents the stub axle bouncing off the rear sub frame.

I know that they are known as shock absorbers here, but they do not absorb shock..... ;-)

Now theres one to start a bar room friday debate ;-)

So what would the effect be of lowering your car but not changing Dampers/Shocks ?

The garage near me said that changing the shocks would do little to the ride experience.

the dampers/shocks will be matched to the spring length, and kerb weight of each corner, therefore in theory, on a simple damper, the piston would sit in the middle of the damper (remember I said "simple")

This would allow the maximum degree of up and down movement.

If you change the length of the spring, the "normal" position of the piston will move, this would then cause the damper to crash under certain conditions.

If this happens, then the wheel will loose contact with the tarmac, and as its likely to happen under hard cornering, you end up parked in the nearest hedge.

Says a lot about the garage... why do motorsport people spend serious amounts of money on "shocks" when they all do the same job ?

Paul and I worked in Hinckley (and then I moved to Killingworth)
