Evening all,

As some of you may be aware, I have two Thunders (Yes I am greedy :P ), and as I've just put a pie in the oven, I'll share my arch repair with you whilst I'm waiting :ok:

After a little of encouragement, both arches looked like this after I finished pulling the loose rust off

So I popped down to the the local breakers and picked up both of these wings for the tidy sum of £15 :ok:

So out comes the grinder and I get cracking.

Tack it in place and grind down the welds

Slap some filler on and sand

Plenty of Waxoyl on the inside

As I don't have the goodies required for painting, I paid a local bloke to top coat and gloss it.. The end result.. A nice new pair of arches and a much happier Jimbo!

That is very impressive (to my untrained eye!)
What wings were they?
ANd do you reckon the rust won't come back?

How much is the sort of bill you'd expect to get it all done for you?

They are the Peugeot 206 wings. I don't see any reason why it should come back any time soon. All the old rust was cut out and I've used plenty of Waxoyl and Underseal so I should get a good few years out of it. They were repaired in June and there's no signs of it coming back yet, so far so good

206? Cool.
Really neat job though - puts my cut-out; fill; and halfords spray to shame! And despite curerust etc the rust came back within months :(

Just moved to a new area and would really like a garage to say they'd do it for "X".

The only way to get rid of rust is to completely cut out the rusty metal and weld new in. Filling and spraying is a complete waste of time and money. Comes back within weeks.

Any 206 wing except GTI will be OK, GTI ones are a little longer.
BOK is our co-pilot.

I've seen some pumas with 'off' looking rear arches - do you have a picture of it from dead-on, as opposed to from a 3/4 angle?

Not criticising your work (I've been contemplating this for months as my dad is a coded welder and could do the metalwork in his sleep) just curious as to how well the arch profile fits :)

I haven't got a square on picture but it's a very good fit. I taken my time putting the final shape in with the filler as I wanted to get it right.

I'm going to be doing this repair again on my crash damaged project after I've welded the new front end to it

Ah, filler - without it, is it a 'slightly off' fit?

That might explain what I've seen!

Don't get me wrong, beats rust....

I don't know if you know already.. but the 206 wing isn't exactly the same profile as the puma rear arch.. but it is very close.

As you can see in the photos, the arch welds in fine.. the filler helps to build up the final curve to shape it in with the rest of the panel.

I'm not complaining.. I think it looks good.. much better than what was there previously.

What about the inner arch, did you replace that?
