Does Anybody Have A Puma That Has Actually Been Serviced According To The Schedule?

I have looked into countless Pumas recently and it seems that not one has had the services according to the schedule.

Let's forget about the cambelt confusion for a moment (most dealers seem to get this wrong!).

1.7vct Puma service schedule states "10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first".

So why do people get their cars serviced about every 12-15k miles irrespective of time between services? Just because you don't do many miles doesn't mean you can leave it 2 years between services!

And yet they are advertised with "FSH"!

Am I being too picky or is it really that hard to read the service schedule? Why do people spend a 5-figure sum on a car and then skimp an 80 quid oil change?

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO -What a Ride!:D

I have as well - annual services done by the same Ford main dealer I bought the car from, even though I have done only 31k miles in nearly 6 years

I'm still stuck in the dark ages when we had interim and full services, so my
oil & filter get changed at 6 monthly intervals, regardless of mileage.

Mine's been serviced every year to Ford Schedule, from registration in Feb 2002.
As it was 5 years old last year and with a total of only 5,784 miles, it had the Cambelt (Kit, Bolt, Rocker Gasket, Auxillary Belt, Waterpump, etc) and Spark Plugs changed.
Who pays £80 for an oil change?
I'm now changing the oil myself at 6 months, Full set of Powerflex bushes in next 2 weeks. wink.gif

The Haynes Fiesta Manual (3397) can answer a lot of your questions.

Mines probably going to go over the 10k mark before it service but it has had the oil changed and the brakes have been checked as-well recently.

mine is done yearly and oil 6 monthly plus a through check too, so that is two checks a year, the only exception was last year, oil was done, just not done the Christmas service yet, but it has done only 2k miles (if that last year and about 1.5k since last oil change) will be done soon.
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

first owners tend to stick with proper intervals as it is silly not to for depreciation but second/third etc get less fussy and maybe do things themselves so no stamp.

When you are buying a car as old as a Puma it wiould be wise to budget 4-500 for a full service with cam belt at a specialist. Then you know the car is tight and safe.

Spens, thats great, you seem happy with the service you receive at your
Ford dealership (who are they?)

Unfortunately, as with most things, there is inconsistancy, some of the
'second opinions' we deal with regarding Ford dealers (or any other main dealers)
are frankly appalling i.e brake replacement recommended when they are
perfectly servicable.

I am a ford trained technician with over 30 yrs experience and now work for
an independant, paid not a great deal considering the knowledge I have gained
over those years.

Anyway folks, sorry about the rant (feeling that way out) Don't get ripped off!!

that is an interesting observation

given the hourly labour rates the customers are charged I wonder how much the people who actually do the work get!

(I am not prying into what you are paid, just commenting that a lot of money is being siphoned off somewhere else)

dealerships are generally VERY lazy!.. imo

they know just because they are the 'supposed expert' and main agent for a certain brand of car they can reley on a steady stream of customers who think they are getting the best for their car........ some people actually believe they are devaluing their car by not taking it there... wacko.gif

and as you say, they will always NEVER spend the time to fix a part that is time consuming (engine, gearbox, suspension arm etc etc) they will just simply inform the owner they have to buy a new item... which is just rediculous!..... i wonder how many brakes go in the bin just beacuse of a worn 'boot' or corroded piston... 1112202173.gif

Isn't that true for most jobs? They charge three figure numbers per hour (euro's) for the lot of us, but i don't see it on my bank balance!
There's a lot of overhead in a company: equipment, insurances, energy+water, housing, cars, planning and logistics, etc etc...

Freelancing is the way to go if you want to see more of your money; but it has its downsides as well!

I need to find a way to ONLY work overtime, AND get that directly on my bank account. I'd have an Exige S in every room of the house! laugh.gif

Our 1.7 has the full service history (carried out every 12 months as the car has only averaged 5000 miles a year), the Racing Puma isnt so up to date think maybe its missed 1 or 2 on the book.
