Hope it is the right place to aks.

We got this rally puma and we need some fast speed, so then we need the box to be fast/shooter in 2 and 3 gear. Can we clone it whit a spare gearbox from ex fiesta, escort, focus.
Hope to make a std 1 gear and then 2-3 gear faster in gearshift and then std 4 and 5 gear...
Hope that some off you now what i meen.

Got a escort 1.8 BC, focus 1.6 ib5 and a fiesta 1.25 ib5 on stock for spareparts...

Pleas help us. Maybe whit infos on rotations on the gearboxes.

personal prefference mate is that a racing puma ratio box is best, with a really good diff. I can change mine as quick as any other box. ib5 is a really good box. The only thing i do find is that the selector forks can bend some times, so i just carry a loada spares and rebuild every 3 meetings or something. It's quite a simple box. Selecting 5th to realign is a little pain, but straight forward when you know how to do it. Need some decent box oil too, can be a little stiff when selecting in the cold.

yea can probably get some serious power from that engine. If you want me to get any bits done lemme know. Can get hardened rods if you want. Shot peening the rods gets you a 3rd extra strength.

The 4.25 CWP in the FRP IB5 box is probably might be too long for rallying. You will have to work out rpms / speeds based on the gear / CWP ratios and your top rpm.

There are some gear ratio / speed calculators on the internet if you search for them. There is also a list of gear ratios fore the various IB5 boxes as well if you search.

I wouldn't advise shot peening the standard "powdered metal rods"...

Isn't that quite a long 'box? I know on my parents 1.6 Focus the gearing was much longer than on my standard 1.7 Puma.

I've just done a puma 1.7 engine conversion into a mk5 fiesta for track days. It handles like its on rails, the first 4 gears are no problem for our usual track, but the 5th gear is too long, and we'd prefer something which is more like 4.5 gear rather than full 5th, if you understand what i mean. What gearbox can i fit pretty much straight on without modifications to get that bit of extra acceleration in top gear and retain the pull in the other 4 gears?? thanks

So, bought one of these 'boxes' off Flashbastd yesterday, re-fitted engine yesterday afternoon, got the oil for the gearbox this morning, engine running fine again, but, the gearbox is no good. It won't select 2nd, 4th, or reverse easily, and once it does, it won't de-select! 1,3,5 are all fine.

And before someone says have I got the linkage in the right place, yes I have, but there is just no smooth selection. The gears wont select without the linkage either so we know it's a problem inside the gearbox.

Has anyone else bought one of these boxes and had similar problems? Bit of a pain really as it means the gearbox has to come back out!

Open to suggestions. Cheers
