Call me old, but although Vista looks gorgeous, Im really struggling to get legacy software to work with it.

Anyone here really happy with it?

aaaaargh! When I changed computer the new one had Vista on it and would not recognise my modem. There was no Vista driver for it either, not even from the manufacturer. I ended up having to get a new one.

Apart from that it has given me no problems.

Quite frankly, absolutely love it.

I have Vista Home Premium64-bit

A few things (AutoCAD) I've had to make sure I get the 64-bit versions of.

Other than that - CDBlaster doesn't work, but the build it CD-writer actually works, unlike the XP version. Also Power CDG burner didn't work, but they've brought an updated version that works great

Dont get me wrong - it looks gorgeous, but given Office 2003 is still the main office product, why have MS made such a balls up of it.

2nd Gripe.

Office 2007 Standard.

$399 download

uk price £335 download from the same Microsoft Website

Its not like they even have to send me a CD!!!

I have got Vista and it has been a bit of a pain tbh. It had compatability issues with our speakers which were not that old. I bought a £350 digital camera only a couple of months ago - that isn't compatible! Our cordless mouse which is only a few months old isn't compatible and everything else we have had to try and download a patch for.
I wish we had waited for about a year before buying it.
The other features of it are ok though I guess. comp.gif

Must admit I couldn't be happier with my copy of windows Vista. perhaps that is because it's still on a shelf somewhere in a store, waiting for me to buy it biggrin.gif

Think I'll be waiting till the first service pack before I splash out any cash. let you lot find the faults and do the final bit of development for microsoft first wink.gif lol

Well as a professional in this field, I wouldnt get vista as it does not give me control over what I want to do to the computer technically. Its more for the normal day to day computer users who do not know how to install an OS by using a self programmed bootdisk from the earlier days. I am sticking with XP SP2. at least that is more stable and drivers are available for it. I think if I used Vista, 70% of my devices wouldnt work as they are definately not available on the Vista (devices like my chip flasher, and some other electronic devices smile.gif )

Plenty on www.ebuyer.com the last time i looked. IT here says if you ask Dell, they'll do you XP rather than Vista wink.gif

Thats all well and good, but when you are on call 24/7 and your only means of not being tied to your desk is your laptop, waiting a few days for a bespoke one to be delivered is not an option sad.gif
