I know what your all gonna say "Thats illegal" I REALLY want some Black and Silver plates for my Puma and as I only really use it on weekends and considering some of the "Jokes" I've seen on the road that are supposed to be number plates I think I'm gonna risk it. Anyone use these? They'll set the panther Black off a treat tongue.gif

When my brother had his Fiesta ST he had silver and blue number plate, (just the front) and had it for a while and had no problems, but he said he was lucky and did not want to risk it with his focus RS! But for shows and photos in my opinion look good and would finish the puma off!

It's legal on cars over a certain age so it's not like those italic font ones which are always completely illegal. However illegal is illegal.

There are a few places you can order them online, but if you want something specific you might have a job - none of them replied to me, I ended up getting mine from DMB-UK at Castle Combe last year.

I got pressed metal alloy black/silver plates from Serck Marston quite a few years ago. Have a nose around classic car suppliers, I have noticed prices have risen sharply for them now.

I don't like the plastic ones much at all dry.gif

Hi

Here are the legal requirements for number plates:

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/v796.pdf

The main points which would affect you if you go down this route are:
Normal requirements:

All vehicles manufactured after 1.1.1973 must display number plates of reflex-reflecting material, white at the front and yellow at the rear, the characters must be black.

Traditional plates for vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973:

Vehicles constructed before 1.1.1973 may display traditional style “black and white” plates i.e. white, silver or grey characters on a black plate.

Offences:

It is an offence to alter, rearrange or misrepresent letters or numbers in order to form names or words or in such a way that makes it difficult to read the registration number. Characters must not be moved from one block to the other e.g. AB51 DVL must not be displayed as AB5 1DVL or AB 51DVL. Vehicles with illegally displayed number plates may FAIL the MoT test. The police can also issue fixed penalty fines for illegally displayed number plates. Offenders are liable to a MAXIMUM FINE of £1,000 and in some cases the mark may be withdrawn.

Why risk drawing the attention of the police to you (they are bound to examine your car and documents further, if stopped), up to a £1,000 fine and you will still have to replace the plate?

Regards.
Rick

The Haynes Fiesta Manual (3397) can answer a lot of your questions.

This always makes me lol as the DVLA sell plates that need mispacing to show something via their own Select Number Plates Scheme dry.gif

Here's my front black/silver plate, it's been cut narrower due to my plate being a 5 figure one, it looked too big on the front:

Rear: (photo courtsey of Flic)

(these are show plates, not for road use)

there are a couple of old gimmers run around near where i live with black and silver plates. Haven't seen either for a while although they may just have died!

I wouldn't risk it, every time I see someone with illegal spacing or silver on black or a dog mascot on the bonnet I just think W*nk!! ph34r.gif

Looks very cool for show though. biggrin.gif

The other thing to remember if using show plates

TAKE THEM OFF AFTER!!!

This was taken about 3/4 hour after leaving Phoenix Park in Dublin, whilst driving on the motorway. We both realised at the same time that the wrong plates were on the car!

Doh!
