There are a few places you can order them online, but if you want something specific you might have a job - none of them replied to me, I ended up getting mine from DMB-UK at Castle Combe last year.

Hi
Here are the legal requirements for number plates:
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/v796.pdf
The main points which would affect you if you go down this route are:
Normal requirements:
All vehicles manufactured after 1.1.1973 must display number plates of reflex-reflecting material, white at the front and yellow at the rear, the characters must be black.
Traditional plates for vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973:
Vehicles constructed before 1.1.1973 may display traditional style “black and white†plates i.e. white, silver or grey characters on a black plate.
Offences:
It is an offence to alter, rearrange or misrepresent letters or numbers in order to form names or words or in such a way that makes it difficult to read the registration number. Characters must not be moved from one block to the other e.g. AB51 DVL must not be displayed as AB5 1DVL or AB 51DVL. Vehicles with illegally displayed number plates may FAIL the MoT test. The police can also issue fixed penalty fines for illegally displayed number plates. Offenders are liable to a MAXIMUM FINE of £1,000 and in some cases the mark may be withdrawn.
Why risk drawing the attention of the police to you (they are bound to examine your car and documents further, if stopped), up to a £1,000 fine and you will still have to replace the plate?
Regards.
The Haynes Fiesta Manual (3397) can answer a lot of your questions.

This always makes me lol as the DVLA sell plates that need mispacing to show something via their own Select Number Plates Scheme

I wouldn't risk it, every time I see someone with illegal spacing or silver on black or a dog mascot on the bonnet I just think W*nk!!
Looks very cool for show though.

TAKE THEM OFF AFTER!!!
This was taken about 3/4 hour after leaving Phoenix Park in Dublin, whilst driving on the motorway. We both realised at the same time that the wrong plates were on the car!
Doh!
