Hi everyone.

Some idiot has just reversed into my beloved Puma when it was parked up. Posted Image

It looks like it needs a new bonnet, both front wings, front bumper and grill (it was a large, high vehicle!). Even the Ford badge fell off!

Has anyone any ideas on how much this is likely to cost?

The other driver has took full responsibility but was just interested.

Thanks.

If you are going to be doing the work and are willing to use 2nd hand parts, Ian G should be able to hook you up for under £300.00
If you won't be doing the work, I would imagine it would cost upwards of £600.00.
If you go though your insurance it would likely be deemed a write off.

Thanks mate.

Having never been involved in an accident I'm not really sure what will happen.

The other bloke has taken full responsibility so I'm assuming his insurance will deal with everything???

Is it likely his insurers will write it off or will they pay for the repairs?

Sorry to be a bit clueless but never had to deal with insurance and accidents.

Cheers.

When insurance accessors look and vichles which are damaged they look at the cost to fix the car with new Genuine OE panels. If it's cheaper to send your car to salvage and pay you out than to fix your car they will write it off.

Your looking at roughly these prices for new panels from Fords before labour and paint.

Front Wing £300.00 each
Bonnet £200.00
Grill £50.00
Bumper £400.00
Ford Badge £15.00
Clips, bolts and Brackets £50.00

Paint £150.00 a panel x 4 = £600

So your looking from an insurance point of view £1315.00 in Parts and £600.00 in paint thats just under £2000. It's quicker, cheaper and easier for them to write the car off and pay you what your Puma is worth. I would imagine they would try and pay £1000-£2000 depending on the age and millage of your Puma.

Do you understand what i said?

See the likes of that when it's not there fault they should take the car off the guy that was at fault and write his car off and sell it and the money they get from his car should go towards the puma to get it fixed.

Cheers for that mate.

I had a rough idea but thanks for clearing it up.

Would hate to see it written off cos it is (was) in pretty good condition and just done the cambelt before Christmas!

Thanks again and fingers crossed it'll get repaired.

Insurance will definately write it off as a cat c probably due to un-economical repair...

same happened with my fiesta and the damage wasn't as bad..

you'll have to get the pay out, buy it back off them and get it repaired... only worth it if the engine is really good and you love it i'd say...

i had to get mine dvla inspected too which cost more money... such a faff, but glad i did now as it runs like a dream now..

If that goes anywhere near insurance, its a write-off no questions.

If you are happy to fix with used panels I can probably source them, might already have something suitable depending what colour is it.

Alternatively, go through insurance, have them write if off and buy it back as salvage and fix it yourself. This option usually leaves you with more money to do the job but it'll give you a claim. Although most insurers will tell you it doesn't matter if its not your fault, in my experience its still preferable to be able to answer 'no' to the question of whether you've had any claims in the last however many years.

Well that's the good old Puma cat C.

£1600 for repairs!

Good news is a lad at work wants it so at least it will live on!

Picking up a new Honda Civic on Wednesday. Sad to be leaving the club but Civic is stunning.

Will still float about the forums for advice as I did have my fair share of problems with the Puma.
