it can be done, but you need use of a dremel, a glue gun, and a minimum of 15 blue led's

however, i havent actually done it, i've done the mk4 fiesta heater panel, but its different internally, and after experimenting, if i ever do a mk5 fiesta or puma then its gonna be a fair bit of work.

nope, plus it was pointed out to me now anyway, theres acually a green film on between the plastics inside which is impossible to get to because of the way the plastic parts seem to be melted joined, so who knows if it would shine up blue anyway, my advice get some blue bulbs, incidently I noticed today how when I ordered my new osram blue headlight bulbs, they sent me some blue sidelights free, dont need them as I have the PIAA led sidelights, but they fit perfectly into the boot compartment lightbulb holder...hence bluish boot now at no cost biggrin.gif:D

The green bit can be hacked out.. I think I tried shining blue leds through it and they didn't work that well.

If you hack the green bit out, it's a good idea to replace it with something that will difuse the light a bit like tracing paper.

cracked it...

I soldered a few of the large 5mm phenoptix LEDs into where the bulbs go on the PCB. I then splayed them out. The light comes thru, and looks blue cool2.gif Not as blue as the rest, but definitely not green. Need a red LED as the red part of the heat control is not shining. Hopefully the red will shine thru this. Gonna put some more blues in after finished the rest of my switches, and that should be the job done. biggrin.gif

got some blurred ones... Will post them...

Sorry amino... I wrecked the spare PCB I bought experimenting...

Did you find the phenoptix LEDs a bit bright when heaters etc turned on? I have sanded the tips of the LEDs to help dampen the light...

That's a neat idea.

Bit of a tight fit, surely. 5 LED's each with a resitor?

Not too bad...

wrapped a bit of insulation tape aroung the negative leg to prevent it shorting with them all being in close proximity... technically, I could fit as many LEDs as I could and have a huge light output... at 20mA won't blow any circuitry (will take 50 LEDs to add an amp biggrin.gif)

maybe some tape aroung the positive between resister and LED would be useful if using loads aswell, so no current gets to LED before going thru resister. I'll take some photos when I add the red LED.

Nice one Paul. I've used a gel type super glue to stop + & - touching.

I kept original bulbs and hacked unnit apart then removed green filter and replaced with blue OHP plastic sheet, except over heater area.

Yeah, but her plans were visting my Mum and Sister, can't really send her on her own to see my family.

Got to take her car to get the tracking done aswell, and buy two new tyres. Gonna be a busy, boring, costly weekend.
