Have you taken it to ford, they can diagnose which sensor is playing up quite easily... or you can multimeter test them yourself and save a few quid..

a garage did mine a few years ago, and told me straight away from the scan which one it was

Thanks for the replies, taking it into the garage this week, not driving it at the moment, worried the brakes will fail.
Keep you updated, as to what the problem is.
did forget to mention, the noise is very intermittant.

Reason the noise is intermittent is that the car will only pulse the brakes if it thinks you're skidding.

If you can live without the car and don't want to risk it, fine. If that's a major hindrance, then find an empty wide road, perform an emergency stop or two and find the lock up point (or at least how it behaves when locking up) - if you do need to use the car in an emergency, at least you'll know what it's going to do if you have to stop in an emergency, too.

When the lights were on it did still drive and brake fine (though ABS was dfo off), but sometimes the warning lights did go away, but occasionally when I slowed down there was a sudden grinding noise, and the lights came back on again.
Took it to my usual friendly garage on Thursday who diagnosed it and fixed it on the Saturday. Turns out the track rod and hub bearing was on it's way out, and it was wearing down the BS sensor as well. All in all fixed for £240 (inc. labour), which I thought wasn't too bad.
Only thought I'd revive this post, just wondering if the OP had his fixed yet, and if so what was the diagnosis?

I took the car to the garage, and they did a diognosic test, it showed that the abs sensor was faulty, which they did for me. The lights have now gone off, but I still have the intermittant grinding noise when i brake (only happens when braking when I am going slow) also I sometimes have the noise when I turn right, could this be the track rod end?
Thanks

Do you get feedback on the pedal when you get it whilst turning?

When I brake whilst going slow it feels as though the brake pedal is pushing back up and when i brake again the noise stops and it is ok.
Thanks

I was curious to see what was the outcome of his 'fix'. Ever since I've had mine done had no problems so far.
I took the car to my local friendly neighbourhood garage, they're a bunch of Ford 'specialists', as they used to work for a proper Ford garage further down the road. They couldn't get it to be diagnosed with the equipment they had though (no codes popped up), so they managed to hop on over to their old place of employment and loaned the use of their diagnostic equipment, pinpointed the problem, took it apart, gave me a call to have a chat about what the problem was and what needs replacing, and did so.
If it were up to me and the 'problem' is still bugging you I would take it to a different garage. Better to get the problem fixed in a time that suits you than have it go doolaly at the worst possible moment.
