I bought a lovely new Sony VAIO laptop earlier this week. Was chuffed to bits with it until last night when shortly after turning it on, and all the programs starting up, I get the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), a memory dump and the laptop restarts. I did suspect it being the T Mobile Web n Walk USB modem thing I have causing it, so I tried starting the Vista without it plugged in. Same thing happened, and has continued to do so repeatedly.

I'm going to take it back to PC World tomorrow, but has anyone any thoughts before I do?

As far as I'm concerned, a laptop I've owned for four days shouldn't need repairing. Had I dropped it on the floor and jumped on it repeatedly it might do.

I bought the wife a Sony Viao before Christmas, very nice VERY expensive!!
Had no problems with it at all. biggrin.gif

No blue screen of death, no freezing.
It must be something you have installed.

What virus software are you running? I know a couple of companies had problems. I'm running AVG free on the wifes and Virgin's software on mine.
What ever is wrong, its obviously runs at start up. rolleyes.gif

Use restore to go back to when you bough it and start again.
You maybe using XP software and drivers with Vista and its not happy.!

Anti virus is Norton 360. I did suspect the USB modem, but it's been working fine the last few days until yesterday. The only thing that has changed is World of Warcraft (which I still haven't got round to playing yet!) downloaded an update of around 500mb the other night. I've also downloaded all the VAIO updates from Sony. Aside from that, it's as I bought it from PC world.

Have you got a picture of the BSOD, in the dump, it will tell you exactly what it is throwing all of it's toys out of the pram for.

That's kinda the point of it... not just to annoy you tongue.gif

If you do I may be able to shed some light
