Hi everyone!
This is my first puma and I'm quite new to this, so bare with me! Posted Image My 2002 beauty was a cat c in a salvage garage down the road from me in (I'm in Bitterne - Southampton) and for an incredibly cheap price and only 58,000 miles I couldn't refuse! Over the last few months me and my other half have been repairing the damage that the puma had by the previous owner, which was minimal - rear bumper needed replacing, a tail light replacing and a new fog light, apart from that the car is in my opinion a beautiful example of a puma!

The car has gone through the VIC check, passed an MOT and after having a new battery fitted as well, is already to go, just waiting to sell my current car so I can swap cars! Cannot wait to get him on the road

I'm currently only working on the aesthetics on the car and am working on a silver and blue theme, I was thinking of re-spraying the car a nice metallic red however with the paint job on the car I felt it was a shame to think about changing it. So instead I've decided to introduce another colour to the car - blue. This is my progress so far - its only little at the moment!

This is what the car first looked like when I got him:

After a good clean:

So to replace the bumper we went down the scrap yard and found a puma, rare to find in a yard around by me, unfortunately it was black so we decided to give ourselves a challenge and paint it silver! Many hours of work, mostly by my other half later, and was happy with the outcome! As you all know I'm sure its very rare that you get the exact colour with a paint job let alone with spray cans! So I'm really proud of what we achieved on our first attempt! - Hence why the bumper is staying on the car.

Car with the new tail light, fog light and the bumper fitted - after raiding the scrap yards - such a shame to see pumas!

Hopefully this weekend will be polishing it up and making it shiny!

I then had to wait awhile as the car was being put in for an MOT and a VIC check in the space of 4 days, and have only now after the mad christmas rush been able to fiddle with the fun stuff that I've wanted to do!

Found that my puma had the boot light wiring hidden behind the fabric but with no light attached or anything, so decided that I would get myself some blue LED strips to put in instead of a normal boot light - this is how it turned out!

I got a nice christmas pressie as well that I decided to fit yesterday too, although I'm a massive fan of the puma gearstick I thought I would see what it looked like!

And then finally yesterday I decided to add my vinyl onto the petrol cap

Am currently deliberating on whether to change the dashboard lights and clock, already have the led's to do it, but I've looked on the forums and some people say its a tricky job and some don't - any advice or tips would be much appreciated!

I am also going to be spicing the alloys up by spray painting the wheels so there blue and silver and also the wing mirrors and possibly the grills - I know its not to everyone's taste however there are a few silver pumas around my area and wanted mine to be a bit different - think its also something to do with me being a massive fan of Need for Speed and Fast and Furious!

Am also looking into lowering the puma too, but wouldn't know where to start looking, anyone got any advice on what to get and how low to go?

Thanks for looking!
Lindi

Hi :) great car
The boot light hangs from a holder on the right hand side as you stand at the boot put hand in and to the right and under the side shelf area.
There is a LED dash light article in the Wiki.

Update on the puma, unfortunately found a problem with the car yesterday and it doesn't look good Posted Image it now leaks coolant when the car gets up to temperature it leaks all of the coolant out and quite rapidly too. Although the coolant stays level when the car is cold, I've only tested it idle as the car is still off the road at this point. The leaks is coming from below the alternator so been doing some research and have also checked all the hoses and they seem fine, so have now narrowed it down to the thermostat housing and that it might have a crack or something? Some people have said about the heater control valve but wasn't sure if that would be the problem? Am kind of daunted by this as it seems like quite a big job to take the alternator out to get access to the thermostat housing to find out if that is where the leak is coming from, is there any other places I should look first? Would the heater control value cause this problem? Any advice about this would be much appreciated, don't really want to take it to a garage just yet as worried it might cost a lot! Sorry if these are obvious questions! Lindi

Hi Pax.
Your problem is almost certainly your thermostat housing or a pipe right next to it.
It is not a complicated procedure but without one or two tools you may struggle (it helps to take the alternator/belt off etc)
If you were to try and fail, I dont think you would ruin the car.
An honest mechanic wouldnt ask much for the job whether asked to do it or mop up after you...
Hope this is helpful, Stu..

Delayed update on the puma, loads of progress has been made!

Thank you to everyone for your advice as to the problem I had with the coolant leak, decided to take a look on saturday and instead of going down to Ford for the part checked out our local salvage/breakers yard and we found this little 1.4 beauty, always so jealous when I see a puma in purple!

Thankfully my other half set to work on the 1.4 in the breakers and then tackled my 1.7 in the same day, loads of work! Alternator was the hardest part to get out unfortunately, but thanks to some helpful guides was easily solved and everything was removed to find this

So after all this was replaced and put back together, tried it out and had a working puma again! All for the cost of £6 and some long hours put in by my other half the puma was back to normal!

So today was spraying day, the day the blue was introduced to the paintwork :D

I decided that I wanted to do the:
* Number plate area
* Towing caps
* Fuel cap
* Front grills
* Wing mirrors

So after a few good hours work this is the progress and the so far finished product! - I know this might not be to everyone's likings but I am over the moon with how it looks :D

Sorry there are only a few photos of the work kept forgetting to take photos at different stages.

Next jobs are tidying a few bits up and then putting some blue stripes on hopefully at the weekend, attacking the wheels with a bit of blue and polishing him up a treat. Excited to be getting him on the road by the end of this month middle of next month!

Thanks for looking, Lindi :)

Here are a few pics of my puma after me and my other half spent the day claying then cutting it back and polishing and waxing with a machine polisher on saturday, as really pleased at how it turned out! Cannot believe how much dirt came off even though it looked quite clean!

Here are some pictures that I took after putting the goodies onto the car after Ford Fair last night:

I know that some of it or all of it won't be everyones tastes, but I love it and it makes the car a bit different :)
