Recent work on FRP007.. :bleh:

Firstly gearbox off and engine out..

Most 1.7's come out looking like this unfortunately..

As you can see down near the bottom pulley area, the engine is caked in oil, dirt and CV grease...yukk!.. very messy but all cleaned off with a brush and cans of Wynns brake cleaner.. :good:/>

pretty sure the clutch and release bearing were still the original too..eek! look how rusty the bearing is....also pulled out the drive shaft oil seal to replace that too..

new seal knocked in and slave cylinder...

A few other bits showing the usual signs of wear and tear....

the Lower Gearbox mount was actually broken around the top and bottom rubber sections (this happens to all of the FRP ones over time as the rubber isn't really designed to be turned round 90 degrees and eventually it just splits).... the Exhaust O ring is falling apart and the intermediate drive shaft bearing feels dry and rough

All cleaned up, timed and tensioned to perfection..New water pump too.. just got to clean and re-fit a few other parts and install the whole lot back again.. :phew:

Good work and looks so much better :-)
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Shame she has to have a new engine! :-(
But fantastic work Chris as always can't wait till the summer to get more bits done!

Been to see errol today and he has confirmed the worst so will have to speak to Ian about a bottom half or a very low mileage engine so I can swap it over and get some nitrous on it!
