have just read in a journal that Kodak has decided to retire this film after 74 years of production

end of an era...

I imagine a lot of film will get to the point of production costs outweighing the sales with the digital era well and truly established the way it is now.

Can see that specialist stuff from the likes of Ilford may hang around for a few years, but you only have to look at the huge change in the way digital has developed, even in just the last 5 years to see its days are numbered.

New sensor technology is already in pre production that allows for in camera HDR, in excess of 32 bit capture. Its only the manufacturers of PC's and Macs that are hold up the flow now. That combined with ultra fine resolution of the sensors, will mean that the old film, esp 35mm is just not economical.

Who wants to develop a car that runs on coal and water? No one would buy it anyway...
