Morning all,

My 1.7 is suffering from an oil leak coming from the rocker cover gasket. There is oil where the spark plugs are and it's dripping down the back of the engine onto the exhaust & floor.

I've removed the old one and about to fit the new genuine part. Question is, should I be using some sort of high temperature gasket sealant on the flat surfaces between the head and gasket? I assume the other side will be ok since it presses into the rocker cover.

Thanks in advance.

Graeme

yea...doesn't need to be high tempurature really...it doesnt get that hot up there. Innotec i think it is make stuff called easy gaskter...very good. Or wurth do a sealent that is green that is also very good. Expect to pay about £15 for a decent sealent. I do both sides of the gasket....and get a degreaser like brake cleaner to guarentee its grease free. They are a crap design those rocker covers, they always leak.

Oh, one last quesiton. Is it necessary to run the car for a certain period afterwards to help the sealant... eh... seal?
