Has anyone who uses / has used Castrol GTX Magnatex 10w40 oil ever had any running problems as a result. My Ford dealer claims that if I use anything other than 5w 30 oil in the Puma I will experience engine running problems! Is this true?

The usual advice is to go with what it says in the handbook. I think the first number in the oil type is to do with viscosity when cold- I'm not sure whether 10 is thicker or thinner than 5!

searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

I have the 5W30 Magnatec oil for top ups between services. It says on the side it is required for modern Ford engines.
This is also the spec in the handbook, best not to go against that. The 1.7 engine is a complex beast and beyond my mechanical knowledge (its not related to the Anglia engine in a Ford Ka 1.3 - although there is something cool about that!) , so I play it safe.

Are top-ups really needed? Does the puma engine use THAT much oil in 10k miles? I've never topped up my kat once in the 50k+ miles I have driven. Is it because you only get it serviced once a year and so somehow use more oil?
Thanks

But I take it you check weekly that your oil is within limits???
The only servicable part that is age based, not mileage covered (apart from aircon gas) is the brake fluid, which deteriorates with time.
