Hi,
My ABS + Traction Control lights are staying on! Is this likely to be a sensor problem or something more costly? Would a MOT tester fail the car?

Is there a list of things I can check before I take it to Ford?!

I can only remember one instance in the last 13 years where I need ABS. As for Traction Control, I wouldn't know if it was working or not.

Thanks
Staro

Yes likely to be a sensor.
Yes a MOT failure.

Needs to be plugged into a machine at a garage to diagnose which sensor.

Around £100 for a front one I think last time I needed one.

Just seen this.
£12.99 !!!

The cheap Ebay sensors don't last very long apparently! You want branded "ATE" sensors

They can be tested with a multi meter

+1 andyreact, I have the cheep ebay items on mine right now, and the front left has started acting upp now, stil it held atleast one year :) lol

to test it whit a multimeter, you put it to ac and spin the wheel, it should then give you a woltage signal. if not, trow it out, you can also mesure the impedance, or ohm, but that can sometimes be missleading, hovever if you mesure both sides, and they are close to identical, then you should be ok. the rears are often not the same ohm as the fronts.

Well the lights are still on! The MOT is approaching!!

One garage couldn't connect to the ABS module and stated that the module is buggered, they cost £800 so the car is a write off! Any truth in this? He was using Ford Fiesta software on his laptop.

Off to another garage next Sat for another free quote - hopefully they'll connect or its off to Ford for potential bad news!

To write a car off for a blown airbag module is a little harsh. Posted Image

£800 from Ford ???
The are people who regularly sell used parts through the forum who could probably beat that!!
Thats if its not just a sensor!

I would try to get a proper diagnostic check which will pinpoint your fault,
then there are plenty of knowledgable people on the forum who will gladly guide you.. (FOC!)

Harsh reality though. Try a local scrappy for one of those if thats what you need.. or as Stu suggested both already someone from here may be able to help getting the part(s) you need. and Proper diagnostic test just to confirm what the fault actually is aswell is a good idea -- There is one of those parts on ebay here send them an email and ask if thats the full part you require as I am not 100% as it seems cheap lol there is another listed and it's £400 also on ebay

The ABS module is an expensive part, but I would think Ian G could sell you a second hand one he breaks Pumas.
I wonder if the inexpensive ODBII port readers can tell the difference between which ABS sensor or whether it was the module.
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

I've got a feeling it just shows up abs sensor fault and that it can't tell the difference kat however, I might be wrong.
