Fitting Puma Mats

As far as I gather, to fit the plastic screws that hold the mats in place, you just need to mark where the hole should be and stab it with something pointy? But one of the instruction pics shows tape and I am not sure why! Is it as simple as I think or am I missing something?

I found it to be very difficult as the carpet is quite thin and has no underlay so to speak, so i found it difficult to get the plastic screw to bite into or get the carpet to lift on the plastic threaded screw
My first attemp was a failure and i broke a plastic screw in anger and frustration, so a quick trip to my local Ford dealer to see if i could buy some replacements.
I found the best way to get the plastic screw to fit was to trim the end with a stanly knife to shorten the depth from 15mm, taking maybe about a turn and a half from the tip. The Puma carpets are just not thick enough to need the depth of the supplied screws.

My Ford Milly mats don't have any and they are moving about all the time, I swear they move even when I brake. I'm constantly bending down and pulling them up. You don't want mats going onto your pedals (the cause of many an accident)
I might have to modify mine to keep them still, or buy a whole new set (in bright yellow )
